Is this too much exercise? (Exercise flu?)

I hill walk 5k a day - briskly at a pace of about 4 miles an hour. Is this too much? I've just spent the weekend in bed utterly exhausted. Wondering if I'm doing too much?? (Have been doing this for approx 10 months along with sensible weightloss of around 1llb a week).

No, walking for an hour shouldn't be to much, especially when you've done it for a while.
It'll be something else, a stressful time at work, a cold coming on, something that's dragging you down. Might be worth reviewing what your eating to make sure you're getting enough nutrition.

It shouldn’t be too much, maybe you are coming down with something?

I think 5/7 days works better for me, but I don’t know why. It’s a weird one because I actually find every day easier to maintain.

How much exercise were you doing before that, what is the total elevation for the walk, and how old are you?

PineappleTime · 29/04/2024 05:45

You should probably have a day or two a week where you rest but it's hardly running a marathon daily - you probably just have a virus

ButterflyBarista · 29/04/2024 19:10

Thanks folks, yes hopefully just a virus as I enjoy walking. Elevation isn't huge, only about 300ft.
My legs do get a bit achy (should I get a massage or something?). But I built up slowly to this over literally months. I'm mid forties and now a healthy weight (just) but used to be obese a year ago.
I use MFP and am allocated 1510 calories a day which gives me a slow weight loss of about 1lb a fortnight. I eat plenty of protein I think (lots and lots of fish and lean meats, eggs) eat no junk and am gluten and dairy free.
Hopefully just a virus, I'm feeling a lot better today (just in time for the working week - typical!). I just want to be 100% in supporting my body healthily and hopefully without strain or injury.
If anyone has any recommendations for doing this I would appreciate hearing them! (Are regular massages a good idea or is there a supplement or something else I could do?)

You could do some yoga or stretches after your walk if you're getting achy (youtube is good for this). Maybe get a foam roller so you can give yourself a massage.
