What exercise should I do?

I'm late 50s and losing flexibility. I can no longer sit cross-legged. I've had several sessions of physio, which help for a short while, and then I stiffen up again. Physio says it's muscles, definitely not arthritis. Principally psoas and adductor muscles. I also have chronic lumbar spine problems, a weak core, and some weakness in one leg as a result of the original lumbar issue. The physio thinks the weakness is not neurological, and I could probably improve it with targeted exercise.

I don't like gyms. I feel self-conscious and bored, and my Long Covid fatigue affects my self-motivation. So I thought maybe I should try a class, where a teacher and some motivating atmosphere will keep me going.

But what class? What exercise should I try?

Would the lumbar issues allow you to do yoga? I find it really helps my flexibility and strength. I'm a similar age.

The obvious thing is be consistent with the physio exercises - not stopping when the physio stops. Pilates with a specialist instructor (not one who does that and lots of other classes) . Preferably one you can have 1:1 assessment and sessions with, until they think you are ready for classes.

I would suggest standing core exercises and barre class. Once you have a stronger core, you will be able to work on your flexibility more easily.
