Combine peloton with what?

I’m fairly new to Peloton and so far absolutely love it. I’m averaging 4 x 45 rides a week with some added shorter ones during school holidays. At the moment straight after a ride I am doing some press ups then 10/15 mins of yoga/stretching. Do you think this is a good régime or do I need to add something? I’m 42. I reckon you’ll all say weights! If so - how much should I be doing?

I used to combine peloton with squats and lunges, occasional burpee - so body weight. I’m no guru, but i noticed my cardio and heart condition improved dramatically after one month of 5x a week peloton… but my waistline remained the same!

@DisorganisedMummyTurningOrgnaised that’s interesting because my stomach area which has always been my ‘problem’ area has never been so flat and toned! I eat well but haven’t changed anything so didn’t expect peloton to make a difference. I haven’t weighed myself so maybe it’s just that I’ve lost a pound or two but I almost considered wearing a top that showed my midriff the other night, which I haven’t done since I was 17! 🤣 Although maybe it’s the press ups and yoga rather than peloton?
My knees creak during squats and lunges (why I stopped running and switched to peloton) so I tend to avoid those now.

Yup, strength, body weight or light home weights if you don’t like the gym. Loads on line & don’t peleton do any strength workouts?

‘Crunching’ doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do the exercise!

@Loopytiles thanks. Physio told me to avoid them as well as running for now but I do other leg and glute strengthening in my yoga and actually the peloton is great for that. Probably do need to use weights for upper body although maybe press ups enough? Yes lots of classes on peloton. Thank you!

The strength classes! Callie is a good one to start with, I like Adrian too
Hannah Corbin 10 min barre classes are humbling Grin

DisorganisedMummyTurningOrgnaised · 28/03/2024 10:01

Their Pilates classes are also humbling!! I really like Kristin and Anna, not such a fan of Aditi. You could try Pilates! It’s a killer for your abs and pelvic floor!!

The peloton strength classes are great. Do those! And stretch.

Bingowingo1 · 28/03/2024 10:30

Also have you tried bike bootcamp?

4x 45 min classes is great but maybe mix it up? Shorter high intensity rides and longer endurance ones.

Have you tried the Powerzone programmes? They're fab.

Hiya from a fellow peloton user! We’ve had ours for coming up 4 years. First 2.5 years I just did similar to you 4 or 5 spin classes a week. I am now doing 2 or 3 spins and 4 x 20/30 minute strength classes (streaming the peloton strength onto tv. I alternate days do either do spin or strength. We have a mix of peloton weights and decathlon ones. We use 5, 7.5, 10 and 15 kg. My favourite instructors for strength are Callie or Ben.

MissSmiley · 28/03/2024 11:12

Have you tried the intervals and arms classes, using the weights on your bike? I like those when I have limited time as I get upper body in too

Daisykath · 28/03/2024 11:22

Hi fellow Pelotoners! 💕 Will definitely explore all your recommendations! Thanks x

Are you using the other workouts on the platform? I got rid of my bike, just have the treadmill now but I usually do their pilates classes alongside and the strength ones. The extra 10 classes are great. I love the Jess Sims Flash 15 too.

I'm a very recent Peloton owner (recently finished the 1month free trial).

I'm feeling my way into starting the Beginner Strength programme as Stronger You seems more than I can manage at present.

I agree about the 10min Barre classes!

You’ve motivated me to get onto my peloton today! THANK YOU!!
