No idea when it will start. Follow @ keithdunn on twitter as he's usually the only journo who attends.

Let's hope for another safe race. Maybe a woman can finish for the first time and hopefully there'll be a handful of Brits to cheer on. Although tbh, I'll cheer on anyone crazy enough to attempt it.

Taka's latest updates have landed

The first 3 finishers for loop 1 were John Kelly (what was his nickname last year?), guy with the mohawk and small European woman.
Only one of the next 3 is named at the moment - Harvey Lewis (USA)
Then some more blanks

Keith's latest:

"Tragedy averted - a runner who came in off loop 1 three hours ago, missing a page, went back out and found it. Loop 1 complete" "Quick turnaround and he has started loop 2, a huge smile on his face"

"The man in black has finished loop 1 in 11.49"
"The man in black begins loop 2 at 11.57. Eight minute interloopal period. MIB II finishes loop 1 immediately thereafter"

"The loop 2 leaders are on RatJaw" (about half an hour ago)

Edited

John, Damo and Jasmine. Wouldn't it be fab if they were the top three finishers.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 20/03/2024 22:06

Aurelien has missed the cut off to finish?! That's a shocker after last year. He can only complete a fun run now.

Ignore me - he's obviously one of the unnamed blanks in the spreadsheet. I am an idiot 🤣

AuntieStella · 20/03/2024 22:10

Nondescript guy is Jared Campbell

Taka says exact order of the top 6 might be wrong (incomplete info, but recognisable pic of who is at the gate together) but leading group is John Kelley, Damian Hall, Jasmine Paris, Harvey Lewis, Ihor Verys and Albert Herero.

I wanted to add an image with a table that correlates loop1 time with eventual outcome, but it won’t let me (I must have bust through daily limit). I’ll try again tomorrow if anyone’s interested

Enthrallingstoryofstillnessandlight · 20/03/2024 22:12

Is Nicki Spinks there do we know?

Spudlet · 20/03/2024 22:12

Come on Damo!

PanadTe · 20/03/2024 22:15

Place marking thanks

AuntieStella · 20/03/2024 22:19

Enthrallingstoryofstillnessandlight · 20/03/2024 22:12

Is Nicki Spinks there do we know?

Not listed

Taka's spreadsheet still has some blanks in it, but most (all?) of those give nationalities, and there are no further Brits
None of the nationality-only ones have sex listed - I think he's gone to photos of the entry requirement number plates to make the list!!
The only two confirmed F entrants are Jasmin Paris and Kelly Halpin (USA)

AuntieStella · 20/03/2024 22:21

Anyone know who is Stringbean?

""Stringbean is the first to drop on loop 2 after spraining his ankle"

TheSproutOfWrath · 20/03/2024 22:34

Enthrallingstoryofstillnessandlight · 20/03/2024 22:12

Is Nicki Spinks there do we know?

Not running. She's organising an Ultra round my way quite soon , was out running the route a few days past.

AuntieStella · 20/03/2024 22:46

John Sugden's tracker lists 39 starters (not all by name) and he still needs to iron out Mr Go-Back-For-A-Page (who Taka says is Harvey Lewis, originally in the top 6)

Other than that, they have the same list as far as MIB II. Then John adds the 16 that Keith tweeted as still on the course. Then has 4 already out (Trash Bandit 1, Trash Bandit 2, Not Dave, Lasted 5 hours)

Taka has 32 starters. I'm sure they'll work out a definitive version eventually!

Keith has just tweeted that there are 22 runners on loop two; it's over the fun run cut off (the 13.20 rather than 12.00 hours) so all those not back are DNF.

Now I really must leave this alone!!

MirandaWest · 20/03/2024 23:10

I saw somewhere that Stringbean is Joe McConaughy but it’s all hard to tell anything at the moment.

MirandaWest · 21/03/2024 05:30

The advantage to being awake at a time when I should be asleep is that I have found out who’s been finishing lap 2 and Keith is giving real names 😃

A mass loop two finish as John Kelly, Jasmin Paris, Damian Hall, Sebastien Raichon, and Ihor Verys come in at 19:27:49, 51, 52, 53, 54. #BM100

followed shortly by

Jasmin leads a group of four out onto loop three at 19:45:51. Sebastien is in camp. #BM100

and then

Greig Hamilton, Jared Campbell, and Maxime Gauduin have finished loop two in 19:52:36, 47, 48. #BM100

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/03/2024 05:48

Keith's just tweeted Albert Herrero Casas and Aurélien Sanchez have finished loop two in 20:26:04 and 20:26:20.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/03/2024 06:29

Keith: Maxime began loop three at 21::01:40 followed by Albert at 21:08:52. #BM100

From Ruth Killeen on X.

The Barkley Marathons 2024. Conch shell at the ready...
AuntieStella · 21/03/2024 06:53

Morning!!

That's an amazing set of loop results to wake up to! 8 in under 20 hours and 2 more in under 2.30

The spreadsheets/tables haven't been updated with any loop 2 results yet - neither Taka or John Sugden (the one retweeted by Ruth Killeen is John's, and he updates pretty often). Both update pretty often but both are US based so probably asleep. Taka's is better known as more authoritative; John's includes Fun Run pace cut off times (in EST).
He also recommends one by barkley.ferret.io which I'm finding a bit messy to look at on a phone, but might be better on a bigger screen, which gives times and count-downs (and is not complete but has different detail the main two)

AuntieStella · 21/03/2024 07:04

Other overnight info from Keith (for those without Twitter)

  • overheard "this race would be a lot more fun without the physical pain"
  • As the remaining runners come off loop 1, it's evident that some of them have no idea where they were "We were on the wrong mountain, trying to bail out"
  • Laz's observation: "the theme for the first loop this year is that you have to be able to navigate by yourself"
  • QOTD "you could charge $1.70 for this race and people would pay it"

By the 17 hour point, half the entry field had gone
Others who dropped out include

  • Jim Bedford (didn't finish loop1)
  • Mark Lattanzi (dropped on lap 2)
  • Jim Mann (dropped on loop 2)

Edited to add - I think it's a shame there have been so few nicknames this year!! Also no word on who was the Human Sacrifice

SuncreamAndIceCream · 21/03/2024 07:34

Keith has just tweeted that Aurélien has dropped out

"I don't know how I did that last year" he said.

AuntieStella · 21/03/2024 07:49

That's a shame about Aurelien!

Keith has just tweeted that he thinks of those still going, 10 are still in with a realistic chance of finishing the 100.

I'm trying to work out if that's optimism or sarcasm!!

SuncreamAndIceCream · 21/03/2024 08:02

It does tend to go wrong for people on loop 4. I suspect those 10 will be whittled down by the end of it.

Scout2016 · 21/03/2024 08:07

First time follower here. Are the books in the same places throughout the race? It would seem a bit evil to move them each lap, but fitting maybe.

Taylormiffed · 21/03/2024 08:11

They have to run the last lap alone don't they? Lap 5 looks like it'll be run in mostly daylight.

OP posts:
RelentlessForwardProgress · 21/03/2024 08:41

@Scout2016 the books are in the same place throughout, each loop runners get a new bib number and collect the corresponding new page number.

Last year a hiker found one of the books, picked it up and brought it back to camp...the race was not over and it meant runners were looking for a book that was no longer there

Scout2016 · 21/03/2024 08:59

Thanks Relentless!
I imagine the relief at finding it each time must be quite something, especially when you're beyond knackered and at risk of going a bit loopy in the dark.
