Let's hope for another safe race. Maybe a woman can finish for the first time and hopefully there'll be a handful of Brits to cheer on. Although tbh, I'll cheer on anyone crazy enough to attempt it.

I saw a post on FB today from her old school (Manchester Grammar School for Girls I think) congratulating her. Glad to see there has been some recognition but not too much crazy media. Or maybe she's just turning a lot of it down 😂

For anyone feeling inspired - Jasmin is one of the founders of The Green Runners. She ran the Barkley in trainers that had been patched and repaired and has also written about how she and Damien Hall (another co-founder) are trying to limit the environmental impact of their running careers. The Barkley is a unique race for both as it’s the only one they’ll fly to get to, for example.

I’ve joined, and pledged to repair my kit as much as I can, and get as much secondhand as I can. Looking forward to getting my patch to sew onto my running belt!

Great idea @Spudlet. I've just joined - here are my pledges:

1 - Reduce food waste - log any food items we throw away and think about how it was wasted and what we can do to stop that happening again.
2 - Avoid booking races that I can't get to by bike, public transport or carshare.
3 - Buy no more than 5 new items of clothing in the year (excluding underwear though minimise that too), spending wisely to get something that will last, while getting anything else I need second hand.
4 - Ask race organisers who don't offer a tees not trees option or similar to consider it.

There's a parallel walk with Laz virtual event, where you can log miles and get finisher medals (and buckle if you complete by a certain date). I'm toying with the idea....

@Spudlet @WarningOfGails and anyone else who loves a crazy adventure in the woods: The Centaure En Limousin 2025 begins tonight. It’s even more secretive than the Barkley Marathons though so good luck trying to scrape any info out of the internet on it! I’m a competitor and I know nothing so far. 🤣 Dougal the Horse for running commentary before the event and Infostrecfrance for possible updates during the event, both on Facebook, are your best bet. We have 6 riders on our little team, hoping for us all to finish.

Really pleased this doesn’t overlap this year with the Barkley Marathons though - means I’ll hopefully be able to follow that in peace when it begins. 😁
