Anyone had meniscus surgery??

I’ve had an arthroscopic knee surgery 10 days ago. 1/3 of my meniscus was removed as the bucket tear was too bad to stitch. There was also some tissue removed as damaged.

what should I be expecting in terms of my recovery?

The swelling has been consistent since the surgery. The inside of my knee is starting to show bruising coming out.

im weight bearing now but I have crutches as back up as my knee is still incredibly stiff. I’m doing physio several times a day and am desperate for a better range of movement but it’s still so stiff.

im worried that due to the inner knee pain and bruising and swelling, that I have further damage occurring. Or is this normal??

You need to see a doctor

DP tore his meniscus a few years ago & had it repaired so I've just read your post to him.... he says 10 days is still really early & he was wearing a leg brace for several weeks after his surgery (physio was limited because his op was just before the first lockdown so his experience might be slightly different to yours.)
He had another op in 2022 to remove the meniscus because it had never properly healed after the first op (his tear had been really bad though & the repair wasn't guaranteed to work.) The recovery was much quicker that time & he was cautiously back to normal after a couple of weeks. His knee still feels 'weaker' than the other one but it's so much better than it was & he rarely gets any pain.

@bobby81 thank you so much to you and dh!
the surgeon was hoping to repair but when he went in, it was so wrecked, that he removed. So I was expecting the full brace malarkey. Instead I was told it’s a quicker recovery, which is fab on paper. However my knee is so stiff still. I have weakness too. And pain where the meniscus would be. It’s making me worried I’ve damaged it again.

physio tomorrow so hopefully they can reassure me.

I was training for the London marathon so just feel so deflated and sad about it all. I’m not one to sit around!

No problem. I'm glad you're seeing the physio soon, hopefully they can reassure you. Knees are funny things aren't they?!
DP used to do half marathons but he thinks those days are behind him now.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
