Apple Watch instead of Garmin?

Returning to running after a long break and thinking of using my Apple Watch rather than trying to cope with the demoralisation of seeing how much slower I am now in Garmin Connect. Also it helps that I don´t understand my pace in metric so I can focus on progressing from where I am now, rather than comparing with past PBs etc.

I just don´t know my way around the Apple Watch at all. I don´t need advanced metrics, just the usual pace/distance/elevation but it would be helpful to set up walk/run intervals. Can anyone help? Do I need to install an extra app?

I think if you're running just for fitness the Apple Watch will suffice.
If you're training for marathon or more serious about your running and stats a garmin is probably better and more accurate

Thanks, I´m training for a half next year (I´ve run several in the past, but the last one was in 2019 and I haven´t trained since then). Have you ever used an Apple Watch for running? I won´t start building distance seriously until September so maybe by then I´ll know what I´m missing but do you think the pace will be wildly inaccurate, or the distance or both?

I have , although not run for a while. I don't think wildly inaccurate and probably just fine for a half / half training

Thanks for replying again. If my Garmin wasn´t broken AND lost I´d use them both simultaneously and do my own comparison, but if I can get away without replacing it that would be great.
