Talk to me about your peloton bike! I have one arriving on Monday. Who are the best instructors? How often do you use it? Any tips welcome! Grin

DH and I are, yet again, considering one. No advice but hoping you get some.

chitthechat · 25/01/2024 12:48

@2024Hackathon we have been considering it for a while and we placed an order last week, very excited to get started Grin

I use mine everyday. I don't always do a cycling class but I'll do a strength or yoga class or just a meditation. I absolutely love it!

I think some of the programmes (e.g. you can ride) give a good intro to the various instructors. They're all quite different and there's something for everyone. I think it depends on your music tastes and instructor preferences. I love Christine - she's the only one who is a competitive cyclist, she plays (I think!) great music and she's a really motivational speaker. BUT I know others hate her stories and prefer rides that are out of the saddle a bit more.

redavocado · 25/01/2024 13:00

One more thing! If you're able to get the bike+ DO! I love that I don't have to think about the resistance during a ride.

I'm nudging DH towards this. (Cheaper when it's split by 2, I know.)

I love mine, Tunde is my favourite instructor by miles. She's encouraging but doesn't make you feel like crap.

I tried one of the men-can't remember who, but I was dying on the bike, and the instructor was prattling on about what an easy ride it was.

Ropeonasoap · 25/01/2024 13:53

Just try some different instructors op! I remember everyone telling me Cody was the best but he's not for me. I like Hannah and Matt for rides, Selena and Jess for strength. I'd recommend signing up for the beginner programme then the Powerzone programme! Structured training.

chitthechat · 25/01/2024 15:53

We've just ordered the standard bike as couldn't quite stretch to the + unfortunately, is it annoying having to adjust the resistance?

Thanks for the heads up, I will try a few! Looking forward to doing scenic rides too Grin

Love mine so much.

My favourite instructors are Leanne, Ben, Tunde, Sam, Hannah F, Christine, Emma and Cody. I like Denis when our music tastes align. Definitely try everyone - there is only one bike instructor I actively avoid, but others love him, so it is all personal taste!

I imagine it's the same as a normal spin class so no, especially if it's not a feature you've had before. Having had it though, I wouldn't be without. I love that I can just concentrate on cadence and otherwise zone out a bit.

No it's not annoying at all. Easy peasy.

chitthechat · 25/01/2024 20:03

@Ropeonasoap ah brilliant, thanks. So you're not constantly having to adjust it during a ride?

I love ours. It's just a standard bike too. I couldn't justify the extra for the plus and it suits just fine.

Like others have said there is an instructor for everyone. My favs are Christine, Denis, Bradley, Ben. There's only one who I swerve. I tend to be music driven and pick rides that way.

I'd recommend joining the UK Ladies Facebook group. They have a sub group with monthly challenges that can give a really good focus/goal and also do group rides if you feel like you need that motivation.

I'm not a gym person, had never done spin classes but now wouldn't be without it. So good for fitness.

Jemimapuddleduk · 25/01/2024 20:17

Hi we have the standard bike, have had it just over 3 years and was the best lockdown purchase! Husband and I use the bike or do a strength class approx 4 times a week each and that’s been consistent over the years. Neither of us have bored of it! I rate the UK instructors for spin- Ben, Leanne, Hannah and Bradley. I do love Cody though as his classes are always hilarious and fly by. With strength classes (we use weights from decathlon rather than peloton ones) I love Callie and Ben again. It is super addictive and so easy to fit into your routine. I will never go back to the gym! Now the bike is payed off we are considering the tread!

Jemimapuddleduk · 25/01/2024 20:19

And standard bike is super easy to use, I was used to spin bikes anyway (Les mills ones) where you had to change resistance.

2024Hackathon · 25/01/2024 20:21

If one of you had arthritis in your hands, would you definitely recommend the automatic resistance change rather than manual, please?

App13 · 25/01/2024 20:26

I have one arriving tomorrow!! So excited 😁

chitthechat · 25/01/2024 20:27

@App13 oh fantastic, let me know what you think!

Atreus · 25/01/2024 20:36

Love love love mine. I bought the standard one in lockdown and still use it really regularly. It's no hassle at all to change the resistance. Favourite instructors are Bradley and Christine, but they're all great tbh. The other totally unexpected thing is how amazing the Peloton community is. Join the U.K. Ladies Peloton FB page and you'll see nothing but kindness and support and answers to every question imaginable, both Peloton and non-Peloton related.

nbee84 · 25/01/2024 20:39

I have a different spin bike but use the Peleton app.

Have you done a spin class before? The great thing about spin is that it suits all levels of fitness. You are in charge of the resistance and the cadence and whether you stay sitting down or get out of the saddle. It really doesn't take long before you feel your fitness improving.

You can filter classes for a low impact or a beginner ride.

Once you've got the hang of the classes - and clipping in and out of the pedals (can be tricky to start with) I recommend trying out the bike bootcamp classes. They're a great way to get a bit of cardio and some strength training in one session. My go-to instructor for these is Jess Simms.

You do but it is in no way annoying!

chitthechat · 25/01/2024 23:09

@nbee84 I have done spin before and enjoyed it although it was hard! I've been unable to stick to any sort of exercise plan due to work, children and living rurally (it takes 20 mins to get to the nearest gym). I did have an online coach but the workouts he gave me were all just written down and I didn't enjoy how in-interactive it was. I'm looking forward to joining in on classes to push me on!

OP posts:
App13 · 26/01/2024 14:54

So shes here! And I love her.

I'm opting on on demand classes only as I'm particular about music and ill start slowly with a 15 min class and then ramp up.

You can filter by class, length, instructor and music so forth.

Onwards and upwards

Idunno8 · 26/01/2024 15:01

The bike is brilliant I have a standard and I love it so much, use it constantly and always find it challenging although my cardio
levels are. noticeably improving. Favourite instructor is Cody Rigsby, Olivio Amato, Sam Yo and Hannah Cornin and Kendall O Toole is good but her classes are hard work!! Enjoy!!

chitthechat · 30/01/2024 12:18

It's arrived - love it so far. Backside hurts however!
