Hi . In the autumn last yeat i started to exercise. I also cut down on wine!
i started to feel great.
however , just after c mas i got a virus and it took me three weeks to shake off and not exercised since !

ive got a minor op in march on eye . And have to rest up , no lifting etc during the healing period of about 4 weeks .

is there any point in starting exercises now , till then. I feel like ive lost all my fitness after being ill and dont want to waste my time if it happened again post surgery?

Yes there is a point

You will be fitter and so will recover better

Although people say you lose it all, you tend to build back up much quicker if you were fitter to start with - I don't know why but it seems to be that way

Physical strength and stamina are really helpful with any sort of recovery. I would absolutely work out while you can. The longer you leave it too, the harder it will be to pick up post recovery from surgery.

Yes, prehabilitation as it's called is a really good thing for anyone ahead of any surgery

As you've recently had to rest for other illnesses, it's likely to be frustrating that you can't go back where you left off, but even a few weeks steadily building back up is going to benefit you

Oh, definitely worth keeping going until you have to stop. Your fitness may decline over those 4 weeks but it won’t drop off a cliff, and it will be easier to pick back up once you can. It also helps your mindset, and keeps you open to “what CAN I do?” Rather than “I can’t do anything”.

The fitter you are the quicker your recovery will be so yes it would be good to exercise. I exercise most days, I’m awaiting a hysterectomy so I feel it’s even more important to be fit so my recovery is easier.
