Weak hip abductors

I think my hip abudctors are too weak.

  1. Office job. Martial arts and yoga. But, I can't hold my leg out in front of me at waist level.

In addition, in martial arts, I can't always straighten my leg, or hold the kicks in the correct position. At home, after stretching and performing them slowly, I'm much better.

It takes me a good 20 mins to warm my muscles up, stop the bones clicking etc

Any ideas?

It takes me a similar amount of time to warm up properly but I'm hypermobile. I've just accepted I need to put a bit more time in so my bodies happy with what I'm doing.

Mine are also not great, they do get a lot better with stretching. I struggle to lean over in a cross leg forward yoga pose and Indian style sit as well as not being able to lift the leg out in front but I am just going to keep at it and hope it get stronger! I do Pilates and body balance I can see an improvement

Try adding ballet class into your exercise schedule? For obvious reasons a third to half the class should be conditioning (barre) focused on doing things just like holding your leg up at various angles!

I'd have to cut a martial arts class to add another, but did look at ballet.

What about looking at tom Morrison? I've been looking as he's good with stuff for hEDS. The flong and sexible thing gets on my nerves a bit but he seems to know his stuff.

You could just go to a personal trainer and get a weight lifting workout? Weak hip abductors- there is a weight machine or two that will fix that.

I’ve been on the abductor/adductor machine lately I can do 70lbs pushing inwards but 80lbs pushing out. The 70lbs I do struggle to do more than 10 at a time. I also can’t get my legs particularly wide open!
