Tapering for race

Ronnie1234 · 12/01/2024 20:45

I've run 3 half marathons & 2 x 10 mile races but a week Sunday is my first 8 mile race.
Just wondering how to taper for this? As less distance?!

I usually run 3-4 times a week & strength train 4 times
Should I drop 2 runs in the week & 2 strength sessions & have rest days from Thursday - just walks? Any suggestions please?!

I don't usually taper for distances under a half.

But it may be worth reducing your volume a bit - either by dropping some sessions as you suggest, or by reducing intensity (or a bit of both).

That's not the most helpful answer, is it?

Looking at the amount you do, I think dropping the number of sessions and having at least one rest day could well be worth it. Also making your runs just keeping yourself ticking over, rather than hills/intervals.

And my superstition is to volunteer as parkrun tailwalker the day before a Sunday event, as that's pretty undemanding physically, but keeps you moving
