Help designing an exercise routine

Hi, I'm signed up to a gym for a while, and I'd like to design a kind of fitness regime that I can stick to. I signed up for a personal trainer at the gym, but there are two problems - I'm overseas and the language is a barrier and secondly, I get there is a need for me to sign up for more lessons which results in an endless variety. I've asked for a fitness regime but not really succeeded.

I'm moderately fit, on the edge of being overweight, and not very flexible.

Ideally, I envisage a set of 20 exercises or so (legs, arms, chest, etc, plus some cardio) I can spread over three or four gym sessions, plus stretching or flexibility exercises I can do at home.

Any advice? Is there a good book that can help me design such a regime?

Start by mixing up strength training, cardio, and flexibility exercises in your routine, hitting the gym 3-4 times a week. Try exercises like squats and push-ups, throw in some running or cycling, and don't forget to stretch! also I'll like to recommend you a book called "The New Rules of Lifting" by Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove is a great resource for designing a comprehensive fitness regimen I hope so this will be helpful or you can try online guides as well and stick with it for results. Best of luck😀
