Hi, I'm no stranger to gym classes but never tried HIIT before. I know the basic principle of HIIT but what kinds of exercises/moves can I expect?? TIA :)

Isn't it just a variation on aerobics & calisthenics? Very loud (annoyingly loud) music, shouty / microphone enhanced leader, moving around rapidly but in small spaces, mats to work on, do your best to copy the moves. Planks. Planks are very popular.

Anyway, I'm sure lots of examples on Youtube, but they never convey how LOUD the environment is.

I do HIIT on Apple Fitness. I love it but it is basically aerobics like we used to do in the 80s but more so.

Genuinely it could be anything. Burpees, push ups, squat jumps, jumping lunges. All depends on the instructor.
There will be options for those less fit or injured/disabled in some way.
It’s high intensity so you work hard for 30-40 seconds then rest for 10-20 seconds usually and this carries on for about 30 minutes. You’ll sweat and be knackered but it’s a good workout

Can't speak for them all but my HIIT class is circuits, 30 or 45 seconds on each station then a 20 or 30 second break before the next. We usually have 10 stations and do 2 or 3 full circuits.

Stations vary every week but might include;

Planks (of course!)
Tricep dips
Box jumps
Medicine ball throw
Sled push
Sprints (one end of the room to the other and then back)
Bicycle crunches
Weighted squats
Burpees
Mountain climbers
Depending how busy the gym floor is the instructor might bring in a rowing machine, exercise bike or the ski machine for variety.

I went to a different class at a different gym that didn't use any equipment, it was all crunches / squats / jumps etc.

Thanks everyone! All sounds good except for the burpees, ugh. Am sure I'll feel good after though

Ooh I love hiit it is my favourite 🤩
at ours like pp it is 20/30 secs on the exercise, 10 sec rest. Have about 12 exercises and we do each one 2 x. Go through them all once and that is 1 round where you get a 1 minute rest

do that x 4 rounds that takes us up to about 50 mins then cool down and stretch

it makes me feels so good cannot wait to get back to it next week when classes restart
