Any tips on how to lose excess weight. I bought a spin bike during lockdown which I have never used as I lack the motivation
My work now means I spend alot of time working from home. I want to start exercising at lunchtime but I just lack the motivation to get changed to spend an hour or so on the spike bike (cycling is something I used to enjoy when I was younger). Any tips on how to get motivated?

Don’t wait for motivation, take action. Look up Mel Robbins 5 second rule. Say to yourself you’ll do a 10 min session and you’ll probably find you’ll end up doing more. Action creates motivation.

If you are anything like me, then i think the first couple of times you‘ll have to force yourself to go… pick a time, lay out your sports gear, set up a playlist and just go. Honestly the feeling and sense of achievement you get afterwards should help then then the next few times you’ll find you want to go. If you can set aside that same hour on a regular basis then it‘ll become part of your day/week and hopefully you‘ll begin counting down the minutes till you can get running or biking or get a skipping rope and check out Pinterest for some really good workouts you can do so easily at home…

As PP don't wait for motivation.
I exercise every morning. Do I feel motivated every day? No. But it's become a habit. Like brushing my teeth, it feels weird not to do it.
So what you need is to just do it, and keep doing it until it becomes a habit. That's the only way in my opinion.

I think the key to being healthy is consistency. You’ve just got to keep showing up and doing.

You've asked two different things. To lose weight it's a calorie deficit that matters the most. To be motivated to exercise find something you enjoy - I like lifting stuff so look forward to going to the gym. I wouldn't go on a static bike at home though, that would bore me.

Make it a bite-size burst (tbh the thought of an hour session would bore and intimidate a lot of people when starting out)

Aim for 2-3 times per week, it's more managable than aiming daily.

Commit to the idea, write it down, tick it off.

Make it fun. Put on some music or other entertainment (flashing lights if you have any, maybe youtube video if you don't have a video screen.

Make sure your gear is easy to access and use.

Schedule it like a meeting or appointment. I go to the gym at 5am three days a week, it’s non negotiable and although I don’t always want to go I go because like a meeting I have committed to it.

Combine it with something that you love- listening to a true crime podcast, listening to a romantic novel, singing at the top of your voice to Beyoncé!

Get some nice gym wear and trainers.
