Personal space at the gym

Hi,
I've been a regular attendee at a zumba class for a few years now, and although I have my preferred spot, I'll stand somewhere else of someone is already standing there.

A new girl has recently started, and has the tendency to turn up late. My issue is, when the class has already started and in flow, she will walk through the middle of the class and just stand right behind whoever is standing in "her" spot to say that she wants the space. Sometimes this can mean that she's in mine or others personal space. The simple solution would be for the girl to stand at the back of the class. When the class is particularly busy, its very difficult to find an alternative spot which provides adequate space. I believe the girl has learning difficulties, so, it is a little frustrating as I can see that this is an accident waiting to happen. I do sometimes instruct this class, and have a duty of care for all participants, so I wanted some advice on how to approach this sensitively to avoid people from getting hurt from a situation which could be avoided.

Then you have a duty of care to say she's not in a safe spot, and to direct her to a safe space.

No xp running zumba but had similar situations with work training sessions in terms of people getting attached to spaces and being disruptive when late.

After she comes in: "Hi, come on in, set yourself up at the back of the class and join in when you're ready."

At end of class: "Just a quick reminder folks, if you come in late please join in from the back of the class. See you all next week!"

Clear, direct but brisk works well.

Hi Sally! There's a space there for you there at the back. Ask other instructor to do the same. I was a fitness instructor in my youth and think that's fine. After all you are instructing and correcting people all through the class surely. How about a safety sign for late comers on the door too,and a reminder to everyone at end of class.
