Running / training post retinal detachment

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has any experience of training post retinal detachment surgery. Specifically if you’ve had a scleral buckle?

If so, how long ago did you have procedure and any redetachments or complications afterwards ?

General advice seems to be that you can resume activity after 4 weeks, but it’s not really reassuring as there seems to be very little information on what triggers detachment in the first place. I’ve found one lonely research paper online citing higher incidence amongst weight lifters in NY, and that’s about it!

I asked.my friend who had it and this is her response to your question:

I waited 3.5 months and I did the right thing.
During the first and and second of my check-ups, I was told that I could go back to my old routine pretty much straight away (they were at one and two months after my injury). But then again most recently, at 3 months check up there were students (university hospital) and the professor examining me told them that in my case everything would probably be OK, because the greatest risk of re-detachment is in the first three months.....
They supposedly said that if it's supposed to come off, it will come off anyway, but if it happened to me during any of the sessions, I probably wouldn't assume that it was supposed to be like that
