Climbing while pregnant - harness

Hi, I'm 18 weeks and at some point I'll need a full body harness (my bump is basically not there currently, but know it won't last). I wanted to rent one but since I only go to a clip n climb which is for kids they don't have any full body ones.

So any pregnant climbers.. did you end up just buying? I see petzl recommended everywhere but it's over a hundred pounds. I haven't had much luck finding secondhand (as an aside, if anyone has a full body harness they'd sell I'd be very interested).

Also interested in any accounts from people who climbed while pregnant... Seems like amazing exercise and I'm keen to exercise regularly as my job is very sedentary!

I managed to get mine secondhand, i was very lucky! Can you do a marketplace search for other areas and see if anyone could post one to you? I climbed right up until 40 weeks, obviously toprope only and easy routes i was comfortable with, but it was great to keep moving doing something i enjoyed.

I am keeping an eye on marketplace but no joy yet.. think that might have to be the route forward. Feel like there should be somewhere online you could buy one secondhand, like climbing equipment secondhand especially, but it doesn't seem to exist .. it's just so expensive new!

Crikey, that's niche (and there I was, thinking my search for a wetsuit for an 8 month bump was weird)!
MN clearly does have the answer to everything.

To be honest the bump was too big very quickly and by 6 months even simple ( unroped) scrambles were not possible as you are trying to get you foot up whilst swivelling your leg sideways to bypass the bump so it might not be worth it

@andtheworldrollson my SIL who is a climber said it was weirdly one of the few exercises she could still do and I'm really keen to keep moving as much as possible! Annoyingly she's lent her harness put to a pregnant friend.. but that at least is evidence people definitely do climb pregnant!

I used a standard full body harness of the kind used for working at heights, was much cheaper than the petzl one! I found it dug in around the shoulder/collar bone area so bought seatbelt protectors to help.

If I can find mine, you're welcome to it.

I was still climbing at 30 weeks plus, it was great exercise.

andtheworldrollson · 13/10/2023 19:31

I managed everything else but climbing ... you may just have to see how it goes for you !

Try Vinted, at a glance I think you may be in luck there.

I climbed until 38 weeks both times, well the last two weeks were hugging the wall, but I enjoyed the attempt and the social side.

like someone said, the ones marketed for industry can be cheaper, but think of it as in investment in a future pregnancy

BeansMeansBeans · 15/10/2023 16:13

@AnnaBegins oh wow, if the offer still stands that would be amazing! I'm really keen to carry on exercising because my job is basically sitting on my bum all day

@Catopia didn't even think of vinted! Tried eBay but not there. Brilliant!

I was bouldering until 38 weeks pregnant. No harness required. I didn’t push myself to do more advanced climbs though as I knew I had to be able to climb down rather than fall or jump.
