Gym for runners - what workouts

I've recently joined the gym at work, and have been using it for a couple of weeks now.

Although the place is very well equipped, I have mostly stuck with free weights so far, as I find all the machinery a bit intimidating.

However, I want to get out of this mindset, change what I do every time I go, and get the most out of my membership fee.

Which equipments are good for strength training in runners? I've tried the leg curl amd extension, lateral pull down and cable for ankle swings so far.

TIA

The leg press hits all the legs really. I also like the Smith Machine for assisted squats/reverse lunges.

Thanks @MistyTrains2 .

They have those too, and tend to be popular.

I would like to use the Smith machine but have never lifted barbell before. Think I might need to start without the added weights first to get comfortable.

@xsquared if you are new to squats you could start with some kettlebell goblet squats. And yes to just the bar or 5kg plates.
