What was I thinking?!

I'm 50, almost 17 stone, 5'4" and haven't done any exercise since 2019.

I'm going to a LBT class later.

Tell me it's going to be OK.

That's great!! Well done for making steps to make some positive change that's a hard thing to do!

It's going to be OK. It will be tough but you can do it. And even if you just show up this time then that's still progress.

Have you got your bag packed?

Lottapianos · 23/09/2023 08:29

It's going to be ok. Push yourself but don't worry if you can do everything or complete the full class. You may be sore tomorrow but don't stay on the couch, do some gentle walking

And keep at it! Exercise is absolutely life changing. If can be super tough at first but that's normal, hang in there

donkra · 23/09/2023 08:30

It's going to be OK.

People who are at a gym or class to exercise are there to exercise. They're focused on themselves and not on others. And everyone starts where they are with fitness.

You're doing something really good for both current and future you.

OuiRagamuffin · 23/09/2023 08:33

Go for it! I have a pilates consultation at 13.30, they make you do this before you can join a class and im feeling a bit nervous now. It must be normal to feel nervous, cos when I booked it and it was ten days in the future it seemed a great idea. It still is.

Nerves are normal.

Good luck! Enjoy it, it's not compulsory so you can go, make your own assessment about whether or not to return.

PinkVelvett · 23/09/2023 08:57

It’s going to be more than okay and you’re going to be so proud of yourself!

Almondmum · 23/09/2023 09:00

You were thinking all the right things. You'll be fine, maybe tell the instructor it's your first class in a while. She may be able to show you some alternatives if some of the exercises are particularly tough.

dementedpixie · 23/09/2023 09:12

Go for it!
I do a variety of fitness classes (am 15½ stone at 5'6") and there is always a range of sizes/levels of fitness there.

Only go as far as is comfortable when doing moves and take breaks as required. Not all LBT are the same either as the one I go to does a lot of squats, lunges, etc as well as floor work.

I usually take my own mat and a bottle of water. Wear comfortable clothes and a decent sports bra and enjoy yourself

lljkk · 23/09/2023 11:09

My limited experience of yoga classes in recent years is that there's a lot of dripping insecurity. And that's from the instructors. I gather fitness classes can be the same.

Please don't compare. Everyone who turned up & gave it a go is a success. You're on your own path, they get their own challenges. There should be no competition in it.

Onceponatime · 23/09/2023 12:22

I did it. I survived. I had to stop a few times. At one point, I felt like I was going to throw up. Sweat dripped in my eye. And then I had to sit in the car for 10 minutes before going home because my legs were shaking so much.

But I am so happy I went. Thank you to everyone who responded to my post. I read all your messages before I went in and that really helped me through.

Ah brilliant! Well done @Onceponatime glad it went well 💪

Grushenka · 23/09/2023 12:44

I will never forget the aches after my first LBT when I was unfit as a wretch. Remember when you’re hurting tomorrow and and the next day (always a bit worse) it is your body adjusting to being fit! Do lots of stretching today and I’m coming days. Each and every class you do, you’ll hurt less, it’s an amazing achievement. Well done.

dementedpixie · 23/09/2023 13:11

Expect some muscle soreness (DOMS) over the next few days. I remember my first body pump class and how hard it was going up and down the stairs and getting on and off the toilet Grin. Your body gets used to it though and you shouldn't be as sore next time.

Well done for going; taking that first step is the hardest thing to do. Next time you'll know what to expect and where you can push and when to pull back.

Are you planning on trying other classes? Might be worth trying a few and see what you like best

FabFitFifties · 23/09/2023 14:14

Goid for you OP 🌟

Whataretheodds · 23/09/2023 14:17

Well done! Remember to refuel and rehydrate

Whataretheodds · 23/09/2023 14:17

And enjoy the afterglow

PinkMoscatoLover · 23/09/2023 14:19

I’m the same as you although I way a bit more. I did a LBT class two weeks ago and my legs were ruined for about 6 days. My knees kept on buckling and I couldn’t hold my own weight😂

Keep at it though! I’m sure it’ll get easier

FluffyCloudsofShit · 23/09/2023 20:27

Amazing!! Lovely update

Onceponatime · 14/10/2023 08:35

Just an update on what I've been up to. Have continued going to the gym, and have used MFP to track my food intake. This morning I weighed myself and since my last weigh in at the beginning of Sept, I have lost a stone.

I am so happy. I'm going to try and keep it up and would like to lose another 10-14lbs by Christmas. I do have a few nights out booked in between but will try and be mindful about my exercise and food.

hollyblueivy · 14/10/2023 08:39

Fantastic update, well done for keeping at it!

A stone of is fabulous, are you finding the fitness any easier yet?

Keep going another stone by Christmas is absolutely doable!

Candleabra · 14/10/2023 08:40

That’s amazing! Well done

florenceandthemac · 14/10/2023 10:59

This is amazing, well done

Wtfnowseptember · 14/10/2023 11:24

Well done, that's amazing!

It’s going to be fine and you are fab. Just getting to the class is enough - a yoga guru type once said to me: getting to your mat is the journey. Anything else is a bonus.

Nongatron · 14/10/2023 19:32

That’s brilliant well done op.

Onceponatime · 14/10/2023 20:58

@hollyblueivy it doesn't feel like it's getting easier. But I'm still going to keep going. And I'm still wearing the same clothes, they just feel a little less snug. I hope that by Christmas I will be able to wear something nice and new instead of settling into something comfy and old, like I usually do.
