Gym shoes

So I'm finally joining my local gym in a couple of weeks when my youngest starts nursery. It'll be my first ever time in a gym, so I'm at a total loss to what trainers will be most comfortable while also not looking horrendous.

I'm wanting to do some cardio and light weights/machines for strength if that makes a difference to what shoes will be best?

I just wear trainers from sports direct. Have a pair of Asics and a pair of Nike. I just see what fits and is comfortable and supportive

I wear Nike Metcons as they are a good all rounder, but a decent pair of comfortable trainers would be fine to get you started op.

Have fun!

It's difficult without knowing what you'll do. I use Nike Metcons for general gym stuff as they're stable enough for lifting and good enough for the small amount of cardio type stuff I do. Cushioned running type ones won't be great for any lifting, flat lifting type ones won't be great for cardio. So Metcons are a good compromise, and give you options for where your training takes you in the future and you discover lifting is awesome

I actually started with the cheapest ones I could find in sports direct then upgraded when I found what I wanted to focus on.

Any trainers that are comfortable and that you like the look of will do to begin with, then when you realise that heavy lifting is totally awesome you could get more specific shoes. I just take my cushioned trainers off for lifting but some gyms are a bit funny about it. (I was once told I had to keep my trainers on for protection in case I dropped a weight on my foot. 🙄)

Tbh, no one will take any notice of or judge you for what you are wearing!

barefoot wrecked me.

look for a shoe which is comfy. If you are running mainly look for asics such as cumulus.
