Moonwalk 100km

A friend and I are thinking about doing the Moonwalk London to Brighton 100km in 2024. Have you ever done this? What are your top tips for training for such a long distance? Was it enjoyable or just really tough! What did you take with you for the event? Would you recommend it?

I’m particularly interested in shoe recommendations for power walking. On the website they say not to wear hiking shoes or boots and I don’t want to waste a lot of money on shoes that aren’t suitable for walking long distances mainly on road or dry trails. I’m in the south west if there is a shop that might help with recommendations and fit. Everything I’ve seen so far is either for running or hiking and not this kind of walking. Thank you!

Watching with interest as I have signed up to do a 100km walk. My friend is insistent that u need walking boots but I think lightweight proper trainers would be best

With that kind of distance it doesn’t daft but you have to learn to walk and eat and work out what’s not going to make you sick 75km in!
Shoe wise I’d go for some really padded trail trainers like Hoka

You’re right Lastqueen it’s a kind of whole body experience and we will need masses of training. I have done long distance stuff in the past so I have some mental toughness to keep going but I’m older now and I just don’t want to mess my body up too much! Did the virtual moonwalk a few years ago and still have a black toenail now! I wore good running trainers for that but still had a nightmare. Haven’t heard of Hoka - will take a look. Thank you

I think you’d need something more flexible than hiking boots Sunflowers is the walk on roads or off-road?

It's mostly paths, it's the Thmes Path walk. Off to google Hoka now
