Running shorts that aren’t short

Any recommendations? I’m fed up of all shorts being right around my bottom and riding up to become basically knickers as I run.

H&M and ASOS activewear ranges are surprisingly good. I've got a couple of pairs of shorts from both and they are longer in the leg and comfy.

I bought some 9 inch running shorts - they are the tight type, like cycling shorts rather than flappy but they come down far enough and don't ride up and I can put my phone in a side pocket. I have really big thighs so I find the flappy type just end up looking like knickers!

I've bought men's shorts before. Can't remember the make but I just had a browse in sports direct and found some that were a decent length

Wear cycle shorts

FlySwimmer · 10/06/2023 09:05

Would you consider cycling-type shorts, i.e. not loose but more fitted around the leg? I have pairs from several places - Sweaty Betty, Wiggle, M&S Goodmove - that are brilliant and meant for running. Some have a choice of mid-thigh or almost knee-length. I much prefer them to the loose style, which like you I often found rode up.

Sweaty betty "power" shorts. Expensive but worth every penny as they are super comfy and last for years.

DustyLee123 · 10/06/2023 09:14

What about those ones that are legging type shorts with an attached pair of shorts over the top.

libraryquery · 10/06/2023 10:00

I've got some from M&S that are basically cycling shorts with looser shorts over the top. They are a decent length and don't ride up:

I have decathlon 2 in 1 running shorts that have short cycling shorts underneath. They never ride up and keep me covered if I'm flopped sitting on the grass after parkrun.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 11/06/2023 16:23

2xU do cycling short length running shorts that DO NOT MOVE. Done a rainy marathon or do two in them chafe free. Well worth it

runningpink · 13/06/2023 08:54

Check out Flanci. They do shorts which I can’t comment on. But can recommend their skorts if that’s an option for you.

MsMartini · 13/06/2023 11:34

I wear either the 2-in-1 or cycling shorts style and check the thigh length spec before buying as they change all the time. I've got some SB power ones which are great but think new line is shorter than the ones I have. I am only 5ft3 so it shouldn't be this hard to find longer shorts.

CinderRosie · 13/06/2023 11:52

Thanks everyone, I've bought the M&S ones @libraryquery suggested and will try them this weekend.

Runderwear long leg pants under whatever else. I wear them with a running skirt or skort (as the shorts on a skort never stay put either on me) and the Runderwear pants stay put and keep other shorts in place too

lljkk · 13/06/2023 22:44

Another fan of men's shorts here. Pockets !!

Another Runderwear long shorts wearer here - I then have EvadIct trail shorts with lots of pockets on top

NancyAndLee · 13/06/2023 23:24

I have mens ones too.

For anyone else reading this who's after something - I recommend DHB 2 in 1 (on wiggle). The longer ones. The Lycra shorts underneath don't ride up.
