Running machine recommendations

Just that really!

I'd like something to go in the garage so I can do a few km here and there through the week.

I'm not any type of big runner, but but I did used to be fairly speedy over 5k when I was a few years younger.

Any recommendations are much appreciated. And also is it worth considering a second hand machine?

I have a NordicTrack s20i

I wanted something sturdy and that would have an automatic incline.

It had inbuilt workouts which l use for speed sessions.

Thanks so much @BurntOutGirl

Is it this one? fitnessmarketplace.co.uk/product/nordictrack-s20i-folding-treadmill/

Yes x

I have mine on a mat that l purchased from Amazon

MrsMitford3 · 22/05/2023 19:06

I was about to buy a treadmill and a friend who is a personal trainer said if it is my only machine not to buy one that I could easily replicate the exercise without (go for a run) so at her suggestion we bought an elliptical nordic track and it was money so well spent. Have had it for over 10 years and is used by everyone.

Also easier on my knees as no impact!

We got a really good rebok one that inclines through Facebook marketplace. I had a test run when I arrived and it was about a third of the cost of a brand new one.

Thanks so much @BurntOutGirl x

So appreciate your response. I'm off to do some research. Also considering a small rowing machine.

I do Reformer Pilates 3 x week but am still covered in a little layer of fat that won't budge 😂 hopefully this will be the answer...and I'll be able to exercise through winter when the nights are darker!

I was looking at a rowing machine too 🤣 but l don't know anyone who has one to ask opinions.

My treadmill was recommended by a friend who had two - one each for her and her DH.

I started Pilates in April. Not sure if it's doing anything 🤔. My physio said Reformer would be even better but l really don't think l have the strength in my arms to do it.

I also swim twice a week. Could try swimming?

MrsMitford3 · 23/05/2023 08:53

@moanymoe my DS a rower. He has a concept 2 rowing machine that is a great total body work out! If you have any questions let me know!

SparkleHard · 23/05/2023 09:07

Not really answering the question, but I agree with the suggestion to consider a different machine instead...I have a rowing machine (Concept 2) which is a brilliant piece of kit. It’s a full body workout and, unlike a treadmill, there’s hardly anything on it that can break.

ChangedForEmbarrassingQuestions · 23/05/2023 09:14

Another Concept 2 owner here.

There’s an article somewhere where personal trainers were asked if people wanted to buy one piece of equipment what should it be? A rowing machine was the answer.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 23/05/2023 09:25

I have a Matrix TF30 and it does everything I want. (Except nag me to use it). I especially like that I can link it to Zwift and see my run in detail afterwards on Strava. It wasn’t cheap and of course Zwift has an ongoing subscription charge so be very sure you are going to use it is my advice.

I like the pre set sprint 8 program, the ability to set your own interval program, the scenery you can watch and the ability to watch Netflix etc.

SkiingIsHeaven · 24/05/2023 19:00

If you are going to buy a rowing machine you need to buy a Concept2. All the rest are a waste of money.

BurntOutGirl · 26/05/2023 07:53

Off to google Concept 2...

Fibonacci13 · 26/05/2023 07:58

We have a concept 2 rower that Dp used and a reebok treadmill from Argos that I use - can't recall the model but I've had it for years and haven't had a problem with it

imnottoofussed · 26/05/2023 08:03

I also have a Nordic track s20i

I pay for an ifit membership which syncs to the machine so I can do walks/runs on my iPad which control the incline and speed on the machine. Lots of other workouts on there too not just treadmill ones. And I also have a heart rate monitor that syncs and can control the workout bases on heart rate.

hellololabells2019 · 29/05/2023 12:29

Does anyone have a treadmill they use with the Peleton app?
