Hi all. Potted history- 4 years ago broke my back. Diagnosed with Osteoparosis. Recovered well from back injury. Couple of months later Covid hit as did 2 auto immune conditions. I've been on high dose of steroids tapering down now to 1mg, for 3 years. I'm now in remission but the steroids made me very ill so I didn't do much exercise apart from half an hour dog walking a day. I'm now doing the Race or in my case the walk for life in June. I've been walking 2 to 3 miles a day for a week or so but it's making me ache all over. Big time...I'm in my 70s by the way. Should I walk a bit less and build up or should I just push through with the 3 miles? I also now seem to have a bit of arthritis! So while all this weight bearing exercise is good for the OP is it bad for the arthritis?

If you've not been doing that distance then suddenly did it every day for a month, it is going to ache, and that probably is a sign that you've built up too quickly.
You've asked if you should do less and build up so you've answered your own question I think!

Yes I guess I have but was also wondering about whether the walking was bad for arthritis..my hips and back seem to feel it.

I would dial it back a bit

Take a couple of rest days, then start back with a couple of easy miles, rest day, then 2, then rest day and so on for a week or so and see how you feel

On your rest days look at doing some gentle Pilates or yoga (@Pilates for runners on Instagram is good)

Couch to 5k works because it's a slow build up over several weeks. It sounds like you've tried to do too much too quickly
Hopefully you can still reach your target in June and also keep on going after that

As I understand it, what helps arthritis for some, is not great for others.

Depends on if you have supportive shoes, if you need to consider poles, what sort of ground you're on etc

Why not mix it up a bit, do some other exercise, cycling, gardening or swimming?
