Starting CG Beginner EPIC - anyone want to join me?

So four months of procrastinating and I've finally bitten the bullet and today done my first workout. I've read so much about the Caroline Girvan workouts but they looked way to hardcore for me so starting at the very beginning. It was bloody hard and my legs are shaking but I did it Grin

Beginner is 5 workouts over the first week then I think progressing onto EPIC I and it would be great to have a buddy to spire each other on. Anyone fancy joining me?

Caroline has an app coming out 28th April with a 6 week beginner programme (for real beginners, not just an introduction to her workouts like the current Epic beginner): She will be talking through the programme and explaining how to lift etc so that might be a good place to start!

Hey! I've just completed my first Epic session after a couple of weeks of the beginners programme. My legs are still a bit wobbly and I did treat myself to a whole Easter Egg afterwards, which I'm not sure is quite in keeping with the whole CG ethos, but I bloody enjoyed it! Not looking forward to upper body tomorrow.
Yay us!! Keep up the good work 💪🏼💪🏼

Well done @MelonB and apologies for not replying @samthebordercollie missed your post. Done 3 days (god I'm shit - do side planks get any easier?!) otherwise all good so will look up the new program next week as a follow on.

@raisingthebarbell
I'm hoping it ALL gets easier!!

Hey @raisingthebarbell How did your first week go? Are you still able to walk? 🤪

raisingthebarbell · 24/04/2023 14:02

Hi @MelonB thanks for the check-in. Managed the full week which I was really pleased about - lower body & HIIT were a killer, upper body & core and found hard but quite boring. I'm just looking for next challenge now and deliberating between starting EPIC 1 today or just repeating a couple of the Beginner EPIC sessions until the new 6 week programme is launched on 28th. I' not sure I'm ready for anything more advanced than the beginner yet TBH I'm so pathetically weak 😊

@raisingthebarbell Epic 1 is probably the hardest and longest series, with lots of crazy moves which CG never repeated after (probably thanks for feedback!), it's probably not the best programme to start with: I'd really recommend starting with a series like Iron, not with the weights as heavy as Caroline uses, but the workouts are based around lifting and are slow, easy to follow and a good introduction to all the lifts before starting other programmes: There is no cardio but you can add a day from other workouts if you want that:

raisingthebarbell · 24/04/2023 15:33

@samthebordercollie having looked at Epic you're right some are too complex and many just too long (needs to fit in 1 hour lunch brunch with time to recover & eat). I actually just did Day 1 of Heat and really liked it but can easily swop to Iron if you think that's more suitable for a beginner looking to progress gradually.

@raisingthebarbell if you can cope with the moves on Heat and you're enjoying it then continue with that: It's faster paced and far more interesting than Iron (IMO): I really enjoyed it, but was glad to have done Iron first as I was completely new to lifting and didn't know an RDL from a Bulgarian lunge!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 06/05/2023 21:03

@samthebordercollie is the app free?

@samthebordercollie is the app free?

No, it's around 11,99€ a month for me (I'm in France). There are lots of articles, meal plans as well as the workouts. I'm happy to pay because of all the work Caroline puts into everything. It's very professional.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 07/05/2023 21:51

Thank you @samthebordercollie

raisingthebarbell · 08/05/2023 11:09

@Yourownpersonaljesus the workouts are all free on YouTube. I'm loving Heat - really bloody hard some days but only 30 mins broken up into 40/50 second bursts. With a decent warmup and stretch I'm done in 45 mins which is perfect for me - I'm doing 3 - 4 days a week but also doing some run/walking a couple of times a week

Thanks @raisingthebarbell - I do her YouTube workouts. Only the beginner ones though! Well, I've tried a couple of others but don't do them regularly. I'll get the app when my financial situation is better.
