Gym workouts - looking for decent app or similar

Currently doing small group Personal Training sessions a few times a week until i’m more confident of form, but after another few weeks I plan to just join a gym and go a few times a week by myself. Can anyone recommend a good way of getting structured programmes that incorporate weights and gym machines? Would ideally like something that changes it up a bit from time to time, so I don’t get bored!

Do you want it free or paid?

The Joe wicks app is really good!

I just paid for a year of fitbod. The name is a bit crap but it generates gym workouts based on what you want to work (you can pick muscle groups and training style). You can tell it how many days you want to do and it will take that into account to. Its pretty easy to switch an exercise for something else if the equipment is being used by someone else. You can also tell it what equipment your gym does ands doesn't have.

I tried strong for a while but that's more of a tracker than a workout guide.

I don’t mind paying for it!

Thanks all - will look into fitbod (ugh, what a name). I read that the Joe Wicks one was good but I tried a few of his youtube workouts a few years ago and found his style really irritating so am thinking I might find the app the same!

Have a look at The EC method. Online coaching where you get gym workouts assigned plus a really great Facebook group with support and advice and one to one contact with coaches.

Just ask a PT to programme for you. I have a PT just for programming. She charges me £30 each time. Which is about every 4 months. You shouldn’t change a programme too regularly for progressive overload

I agree with this. Too many people are looking for new workouts every week or so and it's pointless!

ah ok, that’s good to know, thanks.

I use the gymshark app. It has loads of workouts and plans free of charge. You can filter by body parts, exercises, equipment available etc etc. One of my work collegues recommended it and he is in amazing shape and just goes from one plan to another when he gets bored or wants something more specific.

I use it as a brilliant way to quickly keep a log of my workouts. I put my own together for the last couple of 8 week plans. I programme my own workout into it (A little time consuming) and then whilst i workout its just a case of updating any heavier lifts and ticking when its complete.

Ive just signed up to a new plan which i paid for and i will upload the exercises to the gymshark app because its just a brilliant way of recording my workouts and progress. Did i mention its free

Oh and it also has a huge video library of each exercise so if you want a quick reminder of a particular exercise in your plan you can get it quickly and easily

I love Fitbod, nothing else I’ve come across compares - goal setting, suggested programmes including weights/ reps, video exercise demos of everything and logging. I use the suggested workouts as a base then amend based on available equipment / preference.
I workout 3/4 times per week and use Fitbod each time, it’s really helped me focus on my goals in the gym. Defo recommend.
