Leg swollen and in agony

CoQ10 · 21/01/2023 10:41

Last Sunday, i was standing on a chair to put something in a high cupboard. I stepped off the chair and landed badly and felt something go. I don't know whether I've torn the calf muscle or something else.

I've been in pain all week but relatively mobile and probably have done too much and not rested.

This morning, my whole leg is swollen, and I am in agony. I've now got my leg elevated and am trying to limit movement as much as I can
Does anyone have any advice as to what i might have done to it, and what else i can do?

Only advice I can give is phone 111, sorry it doesn’t sound very helpful, but it’s the only sensible advice!

I second @Coffeellama ‘s advice.

Go to A&E. you will need an X-ray.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 21/01/2023 11:28

A&E. Could also be a blood clot.

DottyLittleRainbow · 21/01/2023 11:30

I’d attend A&E, you could have a DVT secondary to your original injury.

Thank you. Taking advice and on 111 now. Will head to hospital if I can't get through.

Well, 8 hours later, I'm still in hospital, but thank you for the advice as its DVT and also infection.

Being given anti coagelants and antibiotics.

I'm very glad I came to the hospital, so thank you.

Really glad you went, rest up and take care of yourself.

Thanks for updating, wishing you a swift recovery.

So today, I was asked to go for a full leg ultrasound, which they weren't able to do at the weekend, and they've confirmed no clots, which is a huge relief.

They think I ruptured a baker's cyst behind my knee, which has caused the pain and swelling.

So even though I'm still in pain, it's not nearly as worrying as DVT. They said one to two weeks for leg swelling to go down.

Well I’m sorry it’s still painful but at least you don’t have the worry now, and you know it’ll be on the mend soon. 💐
