I've eventually done it

After whinging about my appearance for longer than I remember I have eventually signed up to a fitness class.

I plan to go around twice a week to begin (and to fit around kids!) but I'm so nervous! I don't want to be the rubbish/unfit one Blush

I'm 5'4 and weigh around 11st. Ideally I'll like to be about 9.

Hope I can stick to it. Anyone else on a fitness journey? Need to stop picking the leftover Christmas chocolates.....

I am!
But I have been before so it’s not so daunting. I’m doing swimming, yoga and boxercise. What are you doing?

You won’t be the unfit one - classes are so mixed usually. Plus everyone is concentrating on what they are doing so don’t worry about anyone else!

Total beginner here so not really sure what to expect!!

One class is "circuits" the other is a step class. I think I'm more nervous as I'm going alone - people normally do this stuff with friends don't they?

Might even try couch to 5k alongside!

There will probably lots of new people hitting the gym/sports centres right now so you won't be the only newbie.

I go to classes and my body pump class on Tuesday was much busier than usual. Sadly I'll probably not see most of them again as they won't come back

Oo they are good fun, you will be fine - quite intense cardio (depending on the instructor) so you may just need a breather if you have done no exercise in a while but you won’t be the only one - especially after Xmas!

It will be a mixed bunch of people
usually lots of newbies at this time of year and plenty don’t go with friends.
Good luck and enjoy.

Circuits will likely involve different 'stations' with different pieces of equipment or machines e.g.treadmill or even just bodyweight exercises. You spend a short amount of time on each exercise and then move to a different one.

Step involves moving up and over a step. Might need a bit more coordination for that one!

I ran my first parkrun last Saturday..(legs have been killing me ever since 😆) I’m cycling twice a week and an hour’s walking every day …need to lose 6lb

I started boot camp alone but now all the regulars chat & we're welcoming to any new joiners.

I am trying to get back into running after twisting my ankle last year & 2 months off, it's hard to do the first one but then it gets easier. Hope you enjoy it!

I saw a meme a while ago about dreading exercise before & during but then feeling amazing afterwards, I definitely find that's true!

I didn't start going with a friend but have made friends through going. I go for the social side as much as anything else

RedSoloCup · 05/01/2023 09:00

Loads of people go to classes alone now, I find it more common than going with friends so don't worry about that.

I'd definitely try and do something else every day alongside it, 30 mins of walking / jogging either is good and get a step counter or use the one on your phone for accountability.

I eat better and feel better if I do something every day.

Well gone for getting started! That's a big deal. And if you don't like these, just try something else. I had many failed gym memberships till I found what lit my fire and now I love it and it's life changing. Enjoy!
