Easy YouTube workout recommendations

Hi, I'm desperate to lose weight as I'm just 5ft 2 and weigh 13 stone. I'm pretty unfit and would like to do an aerobics workout for 20 to 30 mins 3 times per week in addition to my daily dog walks. I've checked out YouTube and don't know where to begin as there are so many videos. I need something at beginners level, that doesn't require much space and is fun, so I can stick to it. Any recommendations would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Fitness Blender is good for beginners

Grow with Jo definitely works

lugeforlife · 29/12/2022 15:02

I love grow with jo. I don't do it consistently but that's my bad. Loads of different workouts and stuff, she doesn't talk over them etc.

I love doing the 15 min dance work outs and sometimes do 2 b2b. I can be Beyoncé and Mirabel from Encanto! (Tragically am a 48 yr old mum of 2 teens)

As a total beginner pick something low impact or you will end up giving up due to knackered knees.

I like Fitness Blender and Team Body Project.

Joe Wicks. Start with the videos at the beginning of lockdown and work forwards. I did it 5 days a week over lockdown and am really pleased with the results. I now do weights 2/3 x pw (a Joe wicks one) and hiit 1 x pw but looking to alter that in the new year.

It starts easier and progresses. Modify the exercises ie squat not jumping squats. Take pictures of yourself each week. It gets progressively harder through ‘lockdown’.

I went from a Bmi of 24.5 to 20 but I’m far more toned. I actually have muscles you can see in my arms and thighs! I’m a comfy size 8 (though maybe not this week!). All my aches and pains have reduced. I’m in my 40s.

Lockdown was amazing for my fitness levels.

As a total beginner, I'd focus on speeding up your walks, making them longer and more frequent, perhaps wearing leg weights too. Meanwhile do yoga and weightlifting every-other-day instead.

Build strength instead of going for intense cardio right away, which can be hard to keep going and make you feel like a failure.

Another vote for team body project x

Also (I hope you don't mind as I know you didn't ask about diet, but this was key for me) if your dog walk is first thing, save breakfast until after your walk, just have a tea or coffee first thing.

Thank you all so much for your help and advice. I'm going to look at all your recommendations x

Get Fit with Rick (youtube) does "walking workouts" basically simple, low impact aerobics.

Mr Motivator's Daily Dozen (youtube) are 12 min videos with a range of different types of moves.
