Is there a walkers/ramblers thread?

Walking is my favourite exercise. Put me in my walking shoes, issue me with a snack and I'll happily be out for hours. Particularly after I realised that you burn a whole heap more calories walking than flogging myself through a 30-minute run.

Would anyone like me to start a walkers thread for 2023?

Yes!

Yes 👍🏼

Yes! Dh and I had a middle aged adventure last summer, did 28 miles in 2 days with a Hotel stop in the middle. Hoping to do similar this summer but need to work up to it.

I'd love to do more walking @crosshatching - have 7yo DTs though who aren't so keen - and DP is so lazy he's practically welded to the sofa Confused I'm really trying to make walking more fun for us all in the coming year, to improve our finances and our fitness!

Amazing idea... please count me in. I love walking and planning on doing a lot more of it in 2023 Grin

I'm in! Absolutely love walking and being out and about, would love to do more in 2023.

I'm also hoping to move to a more rural location, the prospect of more countryside walks is brilliant.

Excellent! I've created a thread called Best Foot Forward in 2023. Love to meet a bunch of walkers!

Can anyone recommend any good walking boots as I'd also like to do more walking in the new year

erinaceus · 28/12/2022 02:58

@lottielimejuice It’s not really a case of recommending a particular brand or style. The most important issue is that they fit your feet correctly. Are you able to get to a shop for a fitting? Cotswold Outdoor, or somewhere like that.

erinaceus · 28/12/2022 02:58

@crosshatching Thx

MissVeronicaSpeedwell · 28/12/2022 19:12

@lottielimejuice I've just bought some walking boots from Aldi - can't vouch for how comfy they are yet but for £20 I thought it was worth a try! A lot of my walking is short (but very muddy!) distances with the DC, so for me it doesn't matter too much if the boots aren't super comfy. I do have some better walking shoes for longer distances, it's worth trying a few pairs on if you can so work out what suits you.

@crosshatching I will join your other thread!

lottielimejuice · 28/12/2022 19:55

Thanks for the suggestions for the boots. I did actually buy some walking boots from Aldi a while back but ended up taking them back. Maybe I should look out for them again!
