Leggings roll down from the waist when running 😩

I run once or twice a week- nothing serious, I'm not "a runner" like a lot of you. But I'm having the issue that whatever leggings/joggers I wear will roll down while I'm running.

At first when I started out I was running in tracksuit bottoms and cycling leggings because I didn't want to spend any money, so I thought when I invested in running-specific leggings the problem would disappear. Well, I've now just bought two pairs of running leggings, and it's not any better. I had to finish my run yesterday holding the top up with one hand. I now can't return them, either, so that's annoying too. They do fit, they're not baggy or anything, and have a high waist and thick banding with support around the waist so I thought they would work.

Everything I wear just slides down and is distracting and also embarrassing! I have scarring on my abdomen that I really don't want to be flashing.

Has anyone encountered this issue and what brand did you buy that helped?

M&S GoodMove worked for me because they have a drawstring tie as well as being a good fit generally

Ah, good old M&S, what will we all do when they finally disappear? Thanks, I'll check them out.

I find this brand really good. High waisted, and with a draw string

PolkaDotMankini · 09/11/2022 08:02

I have an ancient pair of running leggings from Sainsbury's that stay up beautifully. My Fabletics and H&M ones fall down.

YourBestie · 09/11/2022 08:02

There was another thread here recently about recommendations. Let me see if I can find it.
I saw some.in Sainsburys Sale that looked ok. High waist high support.

You need to make sure there's a drawstring at the waist. M&S are good but results vary- get the ones with drawstrings. This will be pictured and mentioned in the description online.

I have this with leggings, I'm convinced it's my body shape. I now wear mens basket ball long shorts for running and they stay put and are comfortable.

Sweaty Betty Power are the only ones that stay up on me (not tried M&S though). They are very expensive but there will be Black Friday sales soon. Mine are nearly 2 years old and 2 pairs on rotation are worn nearly all winter and still look and feel perfect

You need a drawstring. If you don’t have one and you don’t mind cutting holes in your leggings, you can probably add one as most sports leggings have a lined waistband, you can cut two little holes in the lining and thread a drawstring through. Anything without a drawstring is hopeless for me!

I have a tikiboo pair with a drawstring that stay put and a Lucy locket pair without drawstring that stay glued to me. That said, I am “blessed” with a big bum so they have plenty to be glued to!

Whatsinanamereally82 · 09/11/2022 08:23

Tikiboo are the best for this, decathlon have a drawstring too if you need a budget option. I have large stomach and small bum so terrible problems with rolling down. Tikiboo are by far and away my favourite

TheFormidableMrsC · 09/11/2022 08:31

I've got some Adidas ones with an inside drawstring which are fine and also some Hourglass range ones from ASOS which are really firm and high waisted.

Wailywailywaily · 09/11/2022 08:36

Sweaty Betty for me. Nothing super high waisted as they just seem to roll over my apple shaped tum Blush

LifeIsBusy · 09/11/2022 08:39

I love my rainbow and sprinkles ones. Make sure you follow the directions on the website and order a size smaller than you'd normally buy 😎

AngelsWithSilverWings · 09/11/2022 08:40

I've been running for 12 years and always had this problem. Tried expensive running leggings, Nike leggings and some cheaper ones from ASOS. Even bought an all in one suit as was so fed up but the material wasn't the best for running.

In the end I tried high waisted Next ones. Problem solved. Now have them in three colours.

PeloFondo · 09/11/2022 09:03

Sturdy by design stay up on me and have a drawstring

goldpendant · 09/11/2022 09:06

Sweaty Betty’s for me, zero gravity and power ranges both do the trick. All as good as new many years on.

Fabletics hopeless!

M&S okay but go thin quickly.

if you can invest, do.

yepiamone · 09/11/2022 09:17

Snag. They do more than tights...

HippyChickMama · 09/11/2022 09:19

I have this issue with tights, ordinary leggings and some knickers thanks to having a high waist, big hips and a caesarean overhang but I have some high waisted running leggings from Sainsbury’s and they never roll down when running. They only cost me about £7 in the sale and are plain black too which I prefer to neon colours

DeliberatelyObtuse · 09/11/2022 16:24

Sweaty Betty power leggings are incredible. Once they are on they don't move 😊

fellrunner85 · 10/11/2022 07:20

I really don't rate Tikiboo or those other colourful options - they seem to favour style over substance.

Decathlon Kalenji are the best budget option; Sweaty Betty Powers are great if you can spend a bit (lot) more.

Slowgrowingelm · 10/11/2022 07:23

Sweaty Betty as well. And they are high so they cover up all the lose skin from my pregnancies which is handy.

Slowgrowingelm · 10/11/2022 07:26

Also - are you wearing the right size? In the past I have noticed that sometimes leggings would start to roll if they were either two tight or too large.
