Great south run, some questions

I've got some questions about the great south run.
In lots of the videos I've seen, nobody seems to be carrying water. Why not? Is it provided on the way around? Same for toilets, are there some on the way around?

There are water stations at mile 4 and mile 7. I did carry a 500ml soft flask. I think there are toilets on the course but not sure where other than the ones at the start - it's not such a long run that you'd routinely need a loo stop.

Ah brilliant. Congratulations on your run!

I think there were toilet stops just before the water stations. Lots of supporters were giving out jelly babies too, which was lovely! It was definitely the best supported race I have ever done!

There are toilets at both water stations. The course is pancake flat and it's without doubt the best supported race I have ever done. At mile 8 there is a road where a guy has a scaffold rig where he plays music and cheers on all the runners! I have never high fived so many children!

It's incredibly well organised, the medal an goody bag are fab, it's a brilliant race to do.

And if you make a weekend of it, you can parkrun at Queen Elizabeth Park, thus bagging a rare letter

Regarding toilets, I think they might be a bit heavy to carry? Bulky too. And the plumbing might be an issue. Definitely never seen anyone carry one (though I wouldn’t rule it out in the London marathon! 🤣)

There were definitely water points on the way round. I did carry water which I had added some energy stuff to and stupidly hadn't tested it beforehand. It made my stomach feel rough and I remember running along looking to see if there was a toilet or pub or anywhere I could stop!! Luckily it eased off and I didn't need to stop in the end. The toilets are in patches so if you're worried you can prob look on a map beforehand so you know where they are.

Ooh I hate running but was thinking this could be a good length for a challenge the other week… this thread is actually making that seem even more of a good idea 😄
