Ridiculous exercise class behaviour

Today I witnessed a GROWN WOMAN handing out party invites to half the people in an exercise class. (I had to double check I was in a leisure centre, not a primary school.) It wasn't like they were quietly being distributed to friends, but ostentatiously being given out to those that had made the grade.

The session then started and we had a guest Zumba instructor. The 'party invite' woman and her crew made it quite clear they didn't rate the instructor, decided to ignore her routines, and to instead dance the routines they knew from our regular teacher; you couldn't make it up!!!

What bonkers behaviour have you seen?

People doing their own thing seems to be common practice if what the class isn’t what they thought.

I think people like this lead small lives. Its big fish in a small pond syndrome.

WTF this is so weird. However I have seen some odd behaviour from grown women recently so I can believe it. (Just the usual ohh look at her comments and social media look at me types)

People doing their own thing seems to be common practice if what the class isn’t what they thought.

In some classes (e.g. body pump), some people slightly vary the moves if they have an injury (like they may not be able to do tricep presses due to a bad shoulder but they can do an extension with a small weight working the same muscle group). I don't see that as disrespectful. But doing something way off what the instructor is teaching is just weird.
I also hate people arriving once the class has started, or packing up to leave before the stretches.

Ugh the regulars who think they are better at the classes than the instructors really annoy me. The ones who have their own spot despite it just being an empty hall

PilatesPeach · 22/09/2022 20:13

If people decide to do their own thing then firstly they are no longer covered by the instructor's insurance if they injure themselves, secondly they are extremely rude and thirdly they need to naff off out of the class and grow up. Not acceptable. I cannot bear classes that are full of mean girls - my all girls' school was like this and no way it is ok in adulthood.

I went to a daytime Pilates class rather than my usual evening one because I was off work, put my mat down and went in the cupboard for some blocks. Came out and a woman had moved my mat because seemingly I was in her friends space. That sums up the folk who use my gym during the day and think they own the place.

@Mariposista, I don’t mind people leaving early every now and again if pre-arranged with the instructor and they are in a place where they don’t disturb the whole class doing so (nearest the door).
