Realistic to do 45k steps per day?

We're an office based profession. Currently doing a walkathon for September, there's a guy in another office who's done 230k steps (SUPPOSEDLY!!) since Monday, about 45k a day.

Is that even possible or is he just having us on?
FWiW, he looks late 50s and not sporty!!

Also if he’s using a sports watch it might be counting whilst working on the computer and moving his hands about

HorribleHerstory · 09/09/2022 22:26

The most I’ve ever done was 68500 and it was around 29 miles that day.

I’ve done a few months of going over 20000 every day and it can be hard to fit it in with general life. When I’m doing a specific hiking holiday I’ll do between 35000 and 45000 each day for several days in a row

I think your colleague is bullshitting

When I did a 21 mile fell race, running, that was 40-something k steps. He’s a bullshitter or his watch is broken. Or both.

Yep

I use to run marathons.

My steps were more on my long run days than on the days I actually ran the marathons. Even then they were around 50k.

The OP will have a few colleagues who either own active dogs or are runners, she needs to find out their steps.

emmathedilemma · 11/09/2022 16:39

Does it have a conversion rate for other activities? I did one of these challenges once where it was quite easy to wrack up “steps” if you used the given conversion rate from cycling. But that many from
walking or running alone sounds quite unrealistic unless he’s a very serious distance runner, and even then they wouldn’t do that many every day.

He's averaged 45k for the whole week now. Honestly, he looks like a typical pasty faced 60 yr old office worker.
To be fair, I don't know him so maybe he's really a superman. Who knows...

Come on OP....

PestorPeston · 15/09/2022 21:57

45K steps is 12 and a half hours on the grandfather clock pendulum.

ememem84 · 16/09/2022 09:35

i'm still invested in this too. how is he doing it?

Rapidtango · 16/09/2022 09:40

Most I've ever recorded in a day was 32K and that included a 6 hour route march in the Vosges mountains and a 3 hour walk around Colmar. I was absolutely stuffed by the evening. So no, I wouldn't believe it.

xsquared · 16/09/2022 14:13

He is lying or he will blame his app foe the inaccuracy.

I only managed a total of 42k on the day of the Great North Run, including the walk from the drop off point to the start line, the race itself, the mooching about afterwards, the walk back after being dropped off a mile from home. In total I covered 22+ miles on the day and your colleague is not doing that everyday!

45k steps for the whole week sounds more likely. That's a little less than 6500 steps per day which I can easily exceed by walking 30 minutes to and from work amd a bit more at work.

Thats what I did at glastonbury this weekend but includes dancing steps, plus you walk so much. I think highly unlikely outside of that setting!
