Runners split toenail help

My big toenail has split about two thirds of the way across and all the nail above the split is dead and looks disgusting. It's lifting off slightly but not enough to pull off. Is there anything I can do to make it less unsightly? Can I glue it somehow and slap some nail polish on top? I'd really quite like to get into a pair of sandals before September.

The membrane of teabag with clear polish is meant to be a home solution to holding a split nail down. I didnt find it helped at all though. I used Silipos | 100% All Gel | Digital toe cap from amazon . Protected nail from getting caught and new nail had grown under by the time I took off the loose old nail.

No advice on how to fix it I'm afraid other than just wait for a new one to grow. I totally sympathise, my runners feet are disgusting and fourth toenail currently hanging on by one edge. Don't think I will ever be able to wear sandals again

Ooh replies. I hadn't seen them. Thank you. That toenail cover sounds good. I read about the teabag thing but I think this one is too far gone.
Desperate to put some sandals on in this heat!
