Building Strength with Chronic Illness

I used to go to the gym regularly and run. Then I got sick and I now have chronic health issues. I can't manage running, I took up gentle exercises - mainly yoga which my body tolerates but I am worried I lack strength.

Any tips on a starter strength training that is quite gentle? I won't manage too much without a flair up so I need to go slow.
