David Lloyd prices

Hello,
I'm 3 months postpartum and I need to start losing weight because it's seriously affecting my mobility now. We have a David Lloyd club right next to us - this would make sure that I keep going (when I have to take the bus it quickly gets hard for me to make myself go anywhere!).
However, as far as I'm aware, it's incredibly expensive. If I go for an off-peak membership, how much is it likely going to be? I live in Edinburgh. I mainly want to go swimming really and possibly to the gym I suppose. I don't care about spa facilities and the crèche either (I wouldn't put my baby in there this young - I would just go when my husband gets home from work and he does shifts).

I think you need to call and ask. I don't know if there is a price list as such. A few years back it was around £80/month off peak at our local branch. Not sure if this was a special rate as some employers offer reduced gym memberships and this was my DH's. I suspect each location has its own rates and there might different packages for access to different areas.
Maybe if you pay every 6 month or once year you could get a discount?

southchinasea · 10/04/2022 17:40

I pay £65-70 per month for off peak membership.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 10/04/2022 17:47

I pay £110 a month each for DH and I for all hours but not spa/tennis. We're London/Surrey and can use any club.

Check your off peak hours, I think at mine it's only 11-4 which wouldn't be much good for you

rhowton · 10/04/2022 18:07

It's £280 for a family membership including swimming lessons for my 4&3yo.

If you're struggling with mobility, I would save your money (initially) and try to walk as much as possible and as far as possible. You'll lose weight and you'll feel better.

emmathedilemma · 11/04/2022 10:41

DL are a bit sneaky and don't seem to advertise membership prices which always makes me a bit suspicious that they could quote you just about anything! I think the Newhaven one in Edinburgh is maybe cheaper than the Corstorphine one. Your best option is to ring them up and ask to go for a look round and to talk about membership options. They've got a 14 days for £14 trial advertised at the moment which might be worth trying to see if you enjoy it.

Butternutsqoosh · 11/04/2022 10:46

It varies by club, I'm in the south and pay £78 a month for all hours, but not racquet sports, and not top tier membership. It's expensive but not as much as some, we are currently having a refurb too.

GrandPrismatic · 11/04/2022 10:50

Was coming on to say the same re the 14 day trial. You might not get on with it and you will have only wasted £14…I remember enquiring a few years ago after a trial and was horrified at the cost (I’m sure it was like £120 or something utterly bonkers!).

kisaki333 · 11/04/2022 10:58

Not sure about prices but just came here to say that 90% of weightloss is done in the kitchen, not the gym. Exercise is good for you etc but if you really want to lose weight, work on your diet first. I would even go as far as saying to postpone the gym until you are a few weeks into whatever diet you chose.

Best of luck, I have just started myself (diet, not gym yet) and it's sooo much harder with a little one!

tudorqueenie · 13/04/2022 10:32

Thank you so much everyone. Yeah I'm going to try the £14 trial just now and ask them about membership prices. I will give an update here about prices in case others find it helpful too.

OP posts:
bellsbuss · 13/04/2022 10:43

They won't tell you a price until they get you in to give you the spiel. They don't seem to have a clear pricing structure as everyone seems to be paying different prices at my club.

genie10 · 13/04/2022 10:43

Not all the clubs do the 14 day trial but they all do a 3 month membership. I pay £95 without tennis but the next nearest club locally is about £30 more. They each have their own fees. You need to use it a lot to get value.

theotherfossilsister · 13/04/2022 11:19

If it's the Newhaven one please can you let me know when you find out?

I will! I'll update this thread as soon as I know more. I'm going there this week.

I've just had a look at the DL on Glasgow Road

Club Plus - £109 pcm
Platinum- £129 pcm
Diamond - £192 pcm (that one is standard, whichever DL you are at)

HunterHearstHelmsley · 13/04/2022 13:56

Oh, it's the other one! Smile

Club Plus - £82 pcm
Diamond - £99 pcm

HunterHearstHelmsley · 13/04/2022 13:59

Platinum is £99, not Diamond. Diamond is £192.
DHsdilemma · 13/04/2022 14:00

Ours is £124 a month but £101 each with the partner deal

Thank you so much!!! Much appreciated. Based on the fact that the 14 day trial is £35 (instead of £14) on Glasgow road (if I remember correctly), I'm hoping that membership prices will be maybe even slightly lower than this.

Thank you xx

tudorqueenie · 14/04/2022 14:30

UPDATE - When I went there, nobody gave me a tour. After I finished, I went to reception and asked the receptionist about the prices - she said she wasn't able to tell me and that I should phone up. What's up with the secrecy?! 😂

How strange, and really off putting too despite their lovely outdoor pool

Cleebope2 · 14/04/2022 16:25

I pay £51 monthly off peak in NI. Worth every penny as I swim and use the spa 3 times a week. But £50 joining fee too. I tried to get 14 day trial for dd but nobody got back to me. Their customer service is frequently rubbish.

tudorqueenie · 14/04/2022 16:35

Right, here is the update with the prices ! I managed to find out.
12 month contract:

  • Diamond £179
  • Platinum £89
  • Plus £72
Joining fee £120

3 month contract:

  • Diamond £199
  • Platinum £104
  • Plus £87
Joining fee £150

Ouch! I thought my gym membership was expensive! What’s the difference in the various prices? For £199 a month I’d want my sweaty gym kit washing as well 🤣

rookiemere · 14/04/2022 18:05

I'm a member at the costorphine David lloyd - sadly about to cancel as I'm just not using it as much as I had hoped and it's a 15 minute drive away.

For a start see if you can get them to drop the joining fees, wait until nearer the end of the month as they may be trying to reach targets at that point. If you can afford to pay a year in one go, there's usually a 5% reduction. Also if you work ( or worked ) somewhere you might be able to get a corporate discount which is usually 10%. I pay £89.00 per month and had no joining fee.

The outdoor pool is lush and the main advantage it has over other gyms, but it can be busy particularly between about 8.30-10 am. There's a lot of retired folk who go there every day - aim to be one of them myself.
