Tracy Anderson dvd

I'm hoping to lose a few pounds (not loads, absolute max half a stone) and tone up - mainly arms and abs. I'm 44 and keep reading that weights are the way forward for premenopausal women. I've read some older threads about Tracy Anderson but her monthly membership is an eye watering $90 a month. Can anyone recommend one of her dvds, which are much more reasonably priced?

Her original mat dvd. It’s on YouTube if you want to have a look before you buy.

Does it have to be Tracy Anderson? Strength training and adding weights to your workouts are very important for women of all ages, especially those going through the meonpause. I seem to remember Tracy just uses ridiculously low weights for high repetitions, that's not an efficient way to build strength. She also made some ridiculous comments that women shouldn't lift weights over 3lbs which is scientifically wrong. I wouldn't have any confidence in workout programmes devised by someone with that mindset.

There are lots of free programmes on youtube nowadays and it means you can follow a structured, ongoing programme from a trainier without paying monthly membership or repeating the same workout DVD.

As an alternative to Tracy, maybe take a look at:

Caroline Girvan
Sydney Cummings

Both Sydney and Caroline have a lot of focus on building strength and in a compentent manner, with a variey of programmes to follow.

Other alternatives:

growingannanas
Heather Robertson

The mat one.

Amazon should have it. It's really good, and yes, she uses lighter weight, but it really works.

@Afroginapond I’ve gained so much strength doing just this work out. I tried lots of other more traditional things that just never worked for me - Jillian Michaels etc, but the low weight high rep/body weight work Tracey does has helped me so much. I’ve heard her workouts likened to the things dancers do to give them the strength to dance: I guess it’s about what works for individuals.

I agree with you that it ultimately comes down to finding something you enjoy, it may not be the most efficient method of gaining strength but if it will get you to workout then go for it. I also worked out with Jillian Michaels many years ago and got some reasonable results, mainly because I wasn't do anything else before that!. I've learned a lot since then and I certainly wouldn't use her nowadays.

I stand by my statement that I don't have confidence in the design of the workout programmes of someone who says women shouldn't lift anything over 3lbs (wrong), "re-engineer your muscle structure" (impossible) and promotes fast weight-loss diets (dodgy as hell). There is a reason why she has come under a lot of criticism over the years.

Anything is better than nothing. The OP was concerend about costs so I've suggested that there are other (free) options out there nowadays.

Tracey Anderson's philosophy has changed over the years! A lot of what is stated about her above is out-of-date now.

I can highly recommend her workouts. You can do her Meta program on YouTube. It's supposed to be the best at changing your body if that is what you want.
