Sore knee - rest up or power through?

I had my first PT session last Monday and it involved at lot of squats and lunges which I haven't done for ages. I then did a yoga session and two reformer pilates session and now me knee is really sore.

I'm due to do it all over again this week but I don't know if I should. Is it better to rest up, or power through and just keep exercising. If I do exercise will it make it worse?

I'm rubbing deep heat on. it and taking painkillers (ibuprofen and paracetamol) but its still really sore and I'm limping a bit.

I don't know what to do for the best, and advice would be appreciated.

TIA

Protection. Rest. Ice. Compression. Elevation.

That sounds like a lot of exercise. I think you should really get some rest.

Also if it still hurts after a week or two, go and see a sports physiotherapist. They will be able to advise you how to restart exercise.

Lunges wreck my knees and I've had to stop doing them.

I do yoga and if I hurt my knee I can still swim front crawl without any problems (breast stroke not so good). You can do a gentle floor based yoga session as well (or if you go to a class tell the teacher who will help you with adaptations to avoid hurting further. But swimming is probably your best bet.

At the very least, you need to talk to your PT and pilates and yoga teachers and tell them you have knee problems so they can give you alternative exercises.

lounges are tough stuff and should be done only once you are strong enough for them.
ditch the pt if they did lounges in the first session.

agree with pp. rest it for a few days/a week. ice/elevation/ibuprofen.
see a sports physio.

good luck!

Thanks everyone.

I will rest up for a few days and then do some swimming. I'm so annoyed I didn't take more care!
