Can’t run after having baby

Hi there,

Just looking for some advice really. I had my baby 4 and a half months ago, and at around 3 months started to very gradually get back into running. I’ve been very careful to do the necessary core & pelvic strengthening exercises, and have no problem there, but I get this pain under my ribs that stops me running after about two minutes. It’s like a stitch, but not one I could run through, and I’m not entirely sure it is a stitch because I’m always very careful about not eating/drinking too soon before going. My rib cage has expanded significantly as a result of pregnancy, so I wonder if it’s something to do with that?

I feel like I’ve lost a big part of myself because I loved running before and really miss it. Has anyone had any experience of this before or has any advice about what I can do?
Thank you :)

Give it time. You are really still pretty recently PP and your hormones won't have settled, especially if you breastfeed.

If running doesn't feel good right now, try some other forms of cardio or work back up from a fast walk to a gentle jog slowly.
