Any tips on how to get back into exercising after a prolonged break?

Obviously depends on any health conditions and age but my advice is to just do it! Accept you'll be very achy for a week or two and power on!

Go with Nike - Just Do It!

Probably don't start at 100mph, but build up (eg Couch to 5k, start out walking, then build up distance and time, start with 2-3 classes a week, not 7 etc).

Consider what you're looking to achieve, and what the barriers were that have prevented you from exercising. Are those barriers still there?

Accept there will be DOMS, it won't last forever.

Start slowly and build up! Don’t expect too much of yourself at first. I would also think about your goals. What do you want to achieve? Do you want to improve strength? Cardio fitness? Flexibility? You mental health? Thinking about what you want in the longer term can help you plan what is right for you.

C2 5k is good. Lots of gyms etc seem to run beginerrs groups
Swimming, aquafit ?
Walking, Nordic walking?
Our nearest climbing wall has a ladies only night.

Actually - do you have a bike? Google “breeze rides”. Women’s only guided bike rides, with gentle ones for beginners.

I advise visiting a leisure centre. Take yourself off on a walk too.

Depends if you know what type of exercise you enjoy.
If you don't, try lots of different things until you find the one for you, being consistent is easier if you look forward to it. Took me years to find my niech, weightlifting is what I love.

What exercise did you do before your break? I had most of November and December off but before then would cycle at the weekends then gym (mostly weights) 4 or 5 mornings a week before work. I've decided that in January I will exercise every other day - gym in the week (HIIT and weights) , cycle at the weekends (or gym again if it's too icy) and am proud to announce that I have stuck at it so far! I've even put in an extra cycling day at the weekend and done a brisk 3 mile walk on my non gym days.

1st Feb I will add an extra gym session but the balance of gym and cycling will depend on the weather. It was SO cold yesterday that I couldn't feel fingers or toes for a full 30 minutes after I got back.

Les mills on demand, their Tone videos. Absolutely perfect for getting back into exercise, start low impact and easy to make harder when you are ready. Works both strength and cardio

Thanks for all the advice. I just need to get the motivation and energy to start doing something.

Look at the Blast Plan. I've been doing it over 18 months and it's great. I don't particularly enjoy exercise but see it as an investment in my future. I treat it like homework and just do it 3-4 times a week. It's home based exercise and I have realised that suits me best. I'm not a gym person! I'm much stronger now and have muscle definition and my sore shoulder and back has been cured.
