M&S Goodmove vs Sweaty Betty

I am upgrading my fitness clothes (particularly leggings) as everything I own is more than 8 years old. I have read lots on here recommending M&S and Sweaty Betty. I love them both but at first try in the shop, cannot justify the cost of Sweaty Betty Powers.

Anyone tried both? Do M&S last as long or shall I take the plunge? I kept my previous pairs (mix of brands) for 8+ years and would want the next to last as long

Any recommendations for plain crew neck sweatshirts too?

@DillDanding

Ew to buying 2nd hand leggings.

Anyway - to me, SB Power Leggings are vastly superior and worth the price.

Why ‘ew’? I have a washing machine…

I have both and whilst they’re both better than anything less on the market, on valve I prefer the M&S.

The M&S are heavier and so warmer and have a proper sized external phone pocket.

The S&B colours are better and sometimes the lighter fabric is preferable but the triangular phone pocket drives me mad!

I have many pairs of good move leggings and other goodmove clothes. I have a black and grey camo pair that I worse nearly incessantly in early 2020 before I bought another 3 pairs and I love the print so much I still wear it but are finally starting to go on the knees. That's a lot of use! They have a back pocket for keys when running, a side leg pocket I keep my phone in wearing around the house suck you in but comfortable, essential draw string waist as I'm apple shape so they'd fall down without this. Fab prints.

Can't fault 'em!

I don't rate the t-shirts as much. Didn't wash well, polyester but cheap you get what you pay for. I do like my pink knit batwing "sweatshirt" casual and short use. Really lovely.

Rate John Lewis anyday for reasonable price sweatshirts (£28 got in a couple of animal print, one oversize hoodie, one short khaki zebra print with no hood)

ZenNudist · 01/01/2022 22:33

Sorry that should say casual and sport use.

I can't wait to receive and try them. One thing I should have mentioned at the start is that my exercise is predominantly strength training and some HIIT. I am not a runner, will do long walks for LISS but staying put for running is less important, squat proof is vital!

Thanks for JL recommendation on sweatshirts, will check them out too

I run and exercise not as often as I intend to fairly regularly and have had leggings from new balance, nike, and h and m and not had a problem with any of them. Most are more than 5 years old.

shetlandskies · 02/01/2022 09:03

I’ve got both and I’m not sure there’s much of a difference tbh. I’ve got a pair of M&S leggings that are about eight year old that are still my go to for walking on a cold day.

I only ever buy SB in the sale and use my (eternal) student discount on top. This sale I bought a pair of power leggings and a vest for £41 delivered. I’d never pay SB full price.

Sugar pocket on Amazon are also good imo.

ZenNudist · 02/01/2022 09:09

Can vouch that GM leggings are squat proof. I'm not really a runner either. Better get back into that! Everyone seems to rave about SB so hope they are good!

catinthewindow · 02/01/2022 13:47

SB currently have a sale on and their 3/4 power leggings are half price - love mine

Gonnagetgoing · 05/01/2022 15:09

I splurged (got gift card) on Sweaty Betty jogging leggings and sports hoody for running on the weekend. I was in M&S too but didn't see a huge amount of choice which was a pity.

Slight heads up - the H&M sports range for leggings for running etc I've found quite good.

morechocolateneededtoday · 05/01/2022 17:50

Thank you all, I received M&S today and tried them out for first time. Love them, they are so nice and thick and did not budge for entire workout. I cant imagine how SB can be much better, waiting to find out :)

I am a firm SB fan but the M&S Goodmove range is excellent. It has pockets and is a great price point. The only thing I would say is the sweat wicking ability of the M&S leggings is not in the league of the SB. For general wear this is no problem but if you're doing intense exercise SB has a marginal upper hand. I'll run 10km in my M&S shorts but anything further it has to be the SB powers.
Also, SB do a 50percent off full price items for your birthday so that's worth keeping an eye out for.

does anybody know how the sizes translate?

some GM on Vinted in XXXL doesn’t match the website, which is in numerical sizes? M and S website suggests they run small too.

Ive heard SB fit well over a range of sizes I’m and 18 (creeping towards 20) would XL be ok or XXL?

Im a size 10 and wear a small if that helps. I wear 7/8 length leggings as I’m not terribly long of leg despite being 5ft7.

I rate both but love my SBs, fabrics softer/nicer./ I never pay full SB price though and order online which meant after a few goes I got early access to sales and the 50% birthday thing. And ebay and vinted for new.
