Anyone want a January accountability thread?

I really need to get my arse in gear this year. Well, actually, I'm quite good at getting my arse into my gym gear as it's comfy - it's then doing some exercise which is the problem!
Horribly unfit at the moment after a period of heavy workload and illness. My focus for January is just to get my body moving again. My plan at the moment is to do the Yoga with Kassandra 30 day morning programme and the 15 min evening programme and then Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, something I did years ago.
I did day one of 30DS this morning and can feel it already!

Did you manage day 2 today @dynamitegirl?!

I'd love to be accountable too please... currently making the most of a few hours without the DC by eating too many crisps planning my new exercise routine! This doesn't include actually doing any exercise yet, you understand Grin

dynamitegirl · 01/01/2022 20:46

I did, @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl, in a large part due to your comment!
I didn't do my 10 min morning session until 6pm and immediately followed that by the evening session and then L1D2 of the 30DS. It's done for today!

Would love to join and try be accountable too! I am great at making detailed plans on which workouts I will do each day for the forseeable future. Executing the plan is another matter entirely as you both understand!

I have just started free trial with Les Mills and will combine with other workouts available on YouTube (Fitness Blender etc). I always run out of time to do a longer workout so my plan is shorter ones when I take a break from working/before or after work. I hope to try a longer one on 2 days each week, intentionally aiming lower for that to nail it before expanding.

I had empty house for an hour so did 30min Bodypump this morning - my legs were jelly by the end!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 01/01/2022 22:15

Why yes @morechocolateneededtoday, I am brilliant at the planning...

Tomorrow I think we're doing a whole day out with the DC which means I probably won't get time to do 'proper' exercise or eat particularly healthily. But, it's the last time we'll do anything before back to school/ work so not too bad.

Silly question about Les Mills, is it only on an app or can you view it on a big screen?!

Well done on getting back to Jillian @dynamitegirl!!

morechocolateneededtoday · 02/01/2022 08:41

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl according to the website you can cast it to TV via Apple, Chromecast or on Firestick. I have only used it on laptop so far. I enjoyed the first workout but in terms of creating a programme, I am not so impressed. Saying that, if all the workouts are as good as yesterday's I will probably use it for a few months at least

So my legs are in agony after yesterday! Today will be about keeping active, may try a boxing workout but my legs can't take more weight training yet

EmmaStone · 02/01/2022 10:57

Signing in, as I've been more sedentary the last few months than I'd like. I have plenty of tools at my disposal, so now it's having the discipline!

So, this month I'm doing Yoga with Adriene's 30 days of yoga (starts today), unfortunately the videos don't drop until 10am UK time, so I'll try to do in the evening, but I might do a day behind so I can do in the mornings. However, I am NOT a morning person, so I may be a little optimistic here!

I'm also going to try to run 2-3 times a week, which I've been doing for a while now. Intend to WFH on Mondays and Thursdays, so ideally I'll run before work on those days, then maybe a run at the weekend.

I have an Apple Watch which is a great nudge, I love looking at my stats and over analysing it all. It's a challenge, but I'm going to attempt to burn 10,000 exercise calories this month. I'm carrying a little extra weight, and hoping this may help a bit.

I have the Peloton app, so will use that for my runs and some spin classes, I see a PT fortnightly, and go to a yoga class weekly, so will keep all that up as well. I also try to walk with friends, and haven't seen them for a while, so will try to get a nice long walk in with them (and a good catch up) before we go back to work...

dynamitegirl · 02/01/2022 21:55

I am also excellent at planning. It's the action I struggle with, often because I have spent so much time planning that I have run out of time for the doing!
@morechocolateneededtoday I'll be interested to hear more about Les Mills. When I worked in NZ, I went to his gym and really enjoyed the classes but only heard of the app a few months ago and have been too busy prevaricating since then!
@EmmaStone I like your idea of walks and need to get back in the habit of that. It was one of the few good things about lockdown. I started Yoga with Adrienne a few years ago and found it frustrating as her sessions were inconsistent with some days being just over 20 mins and others closer to 40. If you do it a day behind, you could check how long it's going to last and know when you need to get up.
Overslept this morning so did the morning yoga session at 3pm and have just done the evening one. I'm finding it dull but also know my body desperately needs it. Just about to do L1D3 of 30DS. I would much rather be on the sofa with a mince pie & a Baileys!

morechocolateneededtoday · 02/01/2022 22:10

Sorry ladies I can't report further on Les Mills today as I could barely walk down the stairs after yesterday's workout! Clearly pushed too hard to be this sore and also needed a longer stretch than I actually did. Lesson learnt

Today I had a long walk to keep active, hoping to do another workout tomorrow as will have a couple of hours child free. Fingers crossed!

@dynamitegirl completely agree that I also need to know duration if I am going to wake early to workout. I would love to wake before 6 everyday and have extra time to myself but getting out of bed before I absolutely have to is the hardest thing in the world for me!

dynamitegirl · 03/01/2022 08:13

I've just smashed day 4 of L1 of the 30 DS. Well, survived might be more accurate than smashed! It's less than 10 hours since I finished yesterday's session but we have a busy day and I wasn't sure when else I'd fit it in. I will enjoy not having to think about more than this evening's yoga session (I did the morning one before 30DS just now).
Are you able to move again today @morechocolateneededtoday?

OP posts:
morechocolateneededtoday · 03/01/2022 09:11

Brilliant @dynamitegirl, you're on a roll. I love that you managed to get it in less than 10 hours after previous session, I need your commitment.
Legs are a little better today but not strong enough for another BodyPump yet, just finished a heavy bag boxing workout from Youtube which was good cardio. I also worked in NZ a few years back and got into boxing for fitness there, absolutely loved it but haven't found any classes I liked enough to continue when we moved back. We have a bag at home now so giving it a try with online classes to see if there are any that work for me

EmmaStone · 03/01/2022 14:53

Lovely walk with friends this afternoon, catching up on Xmas and NY news. 6.5km of undulating terrain. Have done 1st day of Yoga with Adriene, will fit day 2 in later. And have contacted my PT to get a session in on Friday, that's going to be fun 😬.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 03/01/2022 22:39

Well done @dynamitegirl! I'm back at work tomorrow, the DC are back at school Thursday, DP back to work next week - can't wait to get back into a routine and find some time for myself. Took the DC swimming today bit it's not exactly cardio as I don't get any time to actually swim!

dynamitegirl · 04/01/2022 21:39

@Clara - I remember a swimming session with my DC when I didn't swim a stroke for the entire time. And we were in the proper pool!
@EmmaStone - you've reminded me to actually message a couple of friends and suggest a walk this weekend
@morechocolateneededtoday - I've always admired people who do boxing. I'm a bit scared to try it myself. Is it good after really frustrating days at work?

I wasn't sure if I'd manage 30 DS today having had my booster but I did. I'm really noticing the impact of yoga on my body already. I can get much (well, millimetres) lower on squats and lunges and my arms are going higher on star jumps. Morning yoga done and I'll do the evening one just before bed.

OP posts:
morechocolateneededtoday · 05/01/2022 16:57

@dynamitegirl I'll be honest, I'm not great at it but it is a great way to get anger out and a cardio workout. if technique is good, can work a lot of areas really well but I think I would need in person lessons to be at that stage.

My children are both 5 and under so if we go to the pool, I dont manage to swim a stroke, just watching them. I love swimming for exercise but get really put off by the hassle of changing and washing hair. It needs to be as easy as possible for me to stick to it!

I managed a second bodypump yesterday. Can feel the stretch in my legs today but thankfully nothing like the first time! Going to find something new in Les Mills to try today, need to get it done soon or it wont happen!

Kids will be back at school tomorrow so hopefully the routine will help me in getting myself sorted

morechocolateneededtoday · 05/01/2022 16:58

@dynamitegirl I need your motivation, you are getting so much done!

dynamitegirl · 05/01/2022 22:39

Well done @morechocolateneededtoday for doing another body pump session. I'm doing really low weights on 30DS as otherwise I just won't manage to do it each day.
I find the whole post exercise hair/shower thing a real faff. I stay bright red for hours after cardio which doesn't help either!
Day 6 of L1 done. I'll be doing it again at 6am tomorrow. Can't wait!

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 05/01/2022 22:47

Ah, it's not just me who's a non swimmer at the swimming pool then Grin oh the joys of small DC...!

I'm still at the planning stage I'm afraid, full of coughs and sniffles and aches. Hoping to feel better by the weekend and be back on it then Smile

dynamitegirl · 06/01/2022 07:29

That sounds rough, @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl. Hopefully with the DC back at school you'll have a chance to rest & recover. Although of course that means you can't do the million things you had planned to do!
Day 7 of 30DS done as well as morning yoga.

OP posts:
morechocolateneededtoday · 07/01/2022 20:35

I hope you feel better soon @dynamitegirl Barre yesterday and BodyPump today. Keeping my workouts around the 30 minute mark is working well for me so far as I am managing to find the time to do them in the day. I am trying to stay as active as I can around it, managed more than 10000 steps as well as workout today which is my aim.

@dynamitegirl, do you find it hard to wake early to exercise or are you an early riser anyway? How are you finding the 30 day yoga? I would love to get into yoga, there are so many benefits to it but I find myself just thinking about all the other things I need to do which is such a waste

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 08/01/2022 23:39

Are you on the mend now @dynamitegirl? I'm still trying to find the energy to get up early to exercise!

Hope you're still getting on ok @morechocolateneededtoday! Are you still doing Les Mills?

The DC are back at school but DP isn't back at work yet - aaarrrrggghhhh. Constantly finding stuff to do VERY LOUDLY at home whilst I'm trying to work. I'm getting a bit worried about him TBH as he's very overweight (he needs to lose at least 8 stone) and he just has no energy/ get up and go; he spends as much time as he possibly can doing absolutely bugger all despite telling me constantly that he wants/ needs to lose weight. Today I've taken the DC out to the shops whilst he sat at home - had to rush round getting them to a sports club that he wanted them to go to as he hadn't bothered getting anything ready - played with them at the sports club as he wouldn't get off his chair - took them to a birthday party and supervised/ helped with food & drinks/ took part in the games whilst again, he parked himself in a chair - then when we got home he's literally not moved off the sofa for hours before going to bed at the same time as the DC. He's now been snoring for a good three hours! His step count must be incredibly low (he won't wear a fitness tracker) and when I asked him why he doesn't use his gym membership and go there in the evenings/ weekends, he told me that then he wouldn't have any leisure time Hmm

EmmaStone · 10/01/2022 16:26

Checking in. How's the 30DS going @dynamitegirl? And Body Pump @morechocolateneededtoday?

I'm on track for my 30 days of Yoga, and am doing ok with the other stuff. Ran 5k at lunchtime today, and contemplating a real yoga class this evening. I did a Peloton weights class on Friday - OMG, I could barely sit down for 2 days - the DOMS was unbelievable!! I'm seeing my PT on Friday, so will try to do another weights session this week (tomorrow evening I think), so that when I se him on Friday, hopefully I won't die!!

morechocolateneededtoday · 11/01/2022 15:20

Checking in too :)

How are you all doing? Glad to hear you are on track @EmmaStone.
@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl sounds really tough getting DP motivated. Looks like it needs to come from him but I feel frustrated on your behalf reading your post. I definitely feel the challenge is getting to the point you enjoy the exercise fo it does not feel like it is taking aware leisure time from you.

I am still going, have been working out most days using combination of Les Mills workouts, mainly Bodypump and Barre. Tried Grit today which was hard, needed a few modifications but am aiming to just stay consistent for now then will focus on pushing myself when I can make this a regular habit
