Garmin/Strava question

I finally bought myself a Garmin watch after browsing for months.

Today I thought I'd set both Strava and my watch going to compare results for this month's half marathon.

Should my watch activity show up on Strava even though it would mean showing the same activity twice? It hasn't so far.

You have to manually sync it to your watch the first time. It does show up twice then - I usually just delete one of them!

Thanks. Does this mean I need to plug the watch in a laptop to upload?

No, you shouldn't have to plug your watch in - you should be able to set it to automatically sync via Bluetooth. That's certainly the case with my Forerunner 245, anyway.

And then you won't have to set Strava running from now on either. Just use your Garmin; it'll sync, and then you won't get your run showing up twice.

You have to sync your watch to your phone via Garmin Connect, and then set it to automatically upload to Strava from there.

Yes, as others say you need to set your garmin to sync to Strava. Then you will get a message along the lines of "UnaOfStormhold ran with UnaOfStormhold" as if you'd done a group activity. I tend to delete one of the activities though as otherwise it messes up my week totals.

Garmin help section or YouTube guides a plenty - I would start with Garmin help section first as it's pretty good

My Venu does take a minute to sync to the Garmin app in my phone but then the Garmin to Strava link is quick

Thanks everyone.

I'll certainly have a look at the Garmin help videos on Youtube. There's probably still loads of stuff I haven't discovered. Absolutely love me new watch!

Set your watch to sync automatically to Garmin Connect, then in the Garmin Connect settings connect Connect to Strava. Then you can record on your watch, it'll update into Connect and almost simultaneously automatically upload into Strava, meaning you never have to set record in Strava and you don't end up with duplicate entries. I love it!
