Body pump- feeling proud today!

I lifted heavier weights than the man next to me and feel really strong now! (I know it's not the point to compare with others but it made feel proud)

Warm up 3.75kg each side of bar
Squat track 7.5kg each side of bar
Chest track 3.75kg each side of bar
Back track 7.5kg each side of bar
Biceps/ triceps 5kg plate and 3.75kg each side of bar
Core 5kg plate

I started pump in April with zero strength or fitness so the progress has been good 👍

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers That's amazing ! Of course it's about your own journey - but still brilliant to see you've progressed and lifted more than others. I used to have that feeling when I did Body Pump though sadly lost all my fitness and even though I pay a monthly sub the les mills online - feel so unfit and weak I haven't even done a single work out. But your weights since April have given me a bit of inspo to kick myself up the bum and commit to doing a class and not just paying a monthly penance fee for nothing!

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 10/10/2021 14:25

Definitely get back into it @cissyandbessy 💪

Well done OP! I’m still at the stage of using tiny weights almost all of the way through. I really struggled this morning - but I’m glad I did it. I’ve been about 6 times and it’s always tough, but that probably just means it’s working!

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 10/10/2021 18:55

I stayed on tiny weights for ages, weeks and weeks but then suddenly found I could increase quite quickly. I'm hoping to get to 10kg each side for legs and back before too long!

right galvanised by your man beating efforts I'm going to do it @Invasionofthegutsnatchers ..hope my poor creaky knees are ready Confused

Insertfunnyname · 10/10/2021 19:42

Oh my gosh!! I just started back and am on 2.5kg for everything and sore the next few days. But I’ve been here before and know it improves. How often do you go? I’m doing twice a week.

troublegum · 10/10/2021 20:40

Can I ask how you know when to add more weights? I am fairly new to bodypump and going twice a week, still feeling v sore the following day(s). I'm still on tiny weights and sometimes need to skip a rep when it gets too much so I'm scared to go up in case I really can't handle it!

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 10/10/2021 21:32

I go 3 times a week, never 2 days in a row. I used to get sore afterwards in the first few weeks but not at all anymore. I guess muscles are used to the workout now.

With the weights you choose you need to feel like you're just about managing to finish each track, gritting your teeth and making faces 😄 without injuring yourself. If you finish a track easily then in your next session increase the weights.

Back and legs are big muscle groups so they get stronger quicker than biceps for example. If you've never increased before then start by adding an extra 1.25kg plate to your bar each side for the squat track and see how you get on.

Today I was going to put 6.25kg on each side for my squat track but I thought, why not try 7.5kg instead and it was fine. I felt a difference but I could still finish the track.

If you can go often, do it. I feel really good afterwards, strong and confident. I'm losing weight too.

@troublegum I was on tiny weights for about 5 weeks then suddenly it was too easy so I increased. The aching the next day went at the same time. So maybe persevere, keep your form good and wait for the moment when it feels to easy to move up to heavier weights.

What do you guys do on days that you don't do pump? Do you do cardio or attack maybe? Or just rest!

troublegum · 12/10/2021 14:54

Fingers crossed @Invasionofthegutsnatchers. I think my problem is that I always feel like I'm "new" to bodypump and can't really remember what the movements will be for each track. I think you're right though, I'll try adding a 1.25kg to each side next time and see how I get on!

Topsyandtimison37 · 12/10/2021 21:12

@troublegum
How often do you do Bodypump? I'm fairly new and one instructor said only do it twice but the other one said three times is best!

I walk 15k steps

I just go twice a week as the class times suit me and I can't make any other times. I started off just once a week as it took so long for my muscles to recover! I can see that three times a week would be optimum once you get used to it.

everyoneknowsitall · 12/10/2021 22:07

Well done OP!

I love bodypump, I go twice a week and then do a mixture of running or popfit three of the other days. I would like to do a third bodypump session but that would involve getting to the gym at 8 on a Sunday and I'm not down for that Grin

Topsyandtimison37 · 12/10/2021 22:35

I find it so addictive and love the music!!

KatharinaRosalie · 16/10/2021 18:01

I'm an instructor. You want to be exhausted, then you get the best results. And I mean barely managing the last reps. Don't be scared that you will put another plate on and then can't handle it - just drop the bar, take a break, adjust the weights, no problem.

As for frequency, I wouldn't do bodypump ever day, but every second day is fine.

Sillybillymillyvanilly · 16/10/2021 18:25

Lifting weights is just the best feeling. Makes me feel like superwoman.

Thank you for this. The overhead lifts today I felt like I was dying but just about held on to the end. I wasn't sure if I was pushing myself too hard but I did manage it so this is good to know.
HermioneWeasley · 25/10/2021 18:22

That’s brilliant - well done you! Rightly proud.

Feeling strong is the best feeling

Lottapianos · 25/10/2021 18:27

That's brilliant OP. BodyPump is ROUGH but makes you feel brilliant. Yay for lifting weights!
