High-viz recs for autumn/winter running

I’ve been running on and off for a few years so have plenty of kit but I’m quite a fair-weather runner so it’s been a long time since I went out after dark! I’d like to keep up the current streak I’m on, and not get put off by going out when the nights start drawing in. I have a well-lit route I can take in the dark so that’s not a problem but no high-viz stuff, just the odd reflective strip on my current gear.

What does everyone wear? I don’t need lights but do you go for vests/armbands/jackets? I’m quite a hot person so would only wear a jacket in the very coldest weather and probably not in the autumn at all.

I have a very lightweight hi vis karrimor jacket but if I get too warm I tie it around my waist so I have a hi vis bum. I'm sure it's a good look. Grin

If I’m running on the road, I wear a bright pink high viz best from IKEA. Year round.

Decathlon do a good value range of winter/ bright/ reflective gear and accessories like chest torches.

BlueChampagne · 19/08/2021 10:24

If you're on pavement all the time and it's well lit, I wouldn't worry. But if you actually have to go on the road, I'd do a bib and lights, like a bike.

I can’t run with something tied around my waist, I’m so easily annoyed by things like that! Anything rubbing/flapping when I run just drives me crazy! That’s why I think I need some proper running stuff as it’s designed not to flap about.

I’m nowhere near a Decathlon so would have to buy online - is the quality generally good or do you need to see it in the flesh?

Proviz is excellent you can get long sleeve tops with reflective arms and i have a gillet as well but I got the cycling one not the running one as its more visible from behind, Proviz usually have discount codes but you can also order from Amazon. I also wear a light as well , you can't be too visible I know someone who was hit by a car running in the dark and I've had a near miss on a zebra crossing. I either wear a head torch or one over my chest that has a red back light as well.

The Proviz stuff is amazing, its so incredibly reflective. I have a gilet which isn't sweaty or annoying (and a dog coat as well as I run with the dogs).
My fave reflective stuff is my skirt with reflective trim and matching headband - the skirt is really in drivers eye line unlike leggings trim

Another vote for proviz.

I have a Proviz gilet, it’s excellent. For early mornings on country roads I attach a wee red bike light to my back as well.

I've never had issues with quality. Things like the hi-viz don't peel off after several winters of use.

Sizing needs looking up but their charts do get you to what you need.

www.amazon.co.uk/SAFETY-SKIN-Reflective-Skin-Spread/dp/B0814N9QJQ?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

This stuff is good - it's like a stick deodorant, but what is spreads is like reflective warpaint. Works on skin and fabrics, and has washed straight off all the clothes I've got it on

Proviz are great. Try BTR as well (direct or Amazon) - cheaper but smaller range.

TheOrigRights · 27/08/2021 21:07

Proviz are fab. I have the long sleeved top and I can see from how far away cars can see me by how soon they dip their lights.
I also have reflective arm bands with LEDs and a clip on flashing blue light that I can wear on my front or in my hair bobble.
I have also had LED clips for my shoes and a head torch.
I live rurally so need to be seen and to see.
