Can you share your tips of getting motivated to exercise?! I feel all I’m doing at the moment is working, I would love to get into some regular exercise but just don’t seem to be able to get motivated at the moment and I don’t know where to start!

Book into a class
Arrange to meet a friend
Put your trainers on and go now!

Just do it. You’ll love it when you’re there/it’s over!

I have exercised 5 days a week for the last year, after a lifetime of hating exercise. I still don't enjoy it, but it is bearable and I get through it as I know how good I feel after.

There are some days I feel like it, and others I don't. No one is motivated every day. For me if I really don't feel like it I tell myself to just do ten minutes and then I can stop. I've never actually stopped, after ten minutes I'm into it and can carry on.

I really like a book called atomic habits. I changed my whole lifestyle and this book was a huge part of it, but one thing that the author says is to never miss twice. So I will allow myself to miss one workout (if I really, really don't feel like it), but never twice. I'm sure that's part of the reason I've carried on so long.

You need to find something you enjoy. I love spin.

Should add that the book helped me to develop habits as part of my lifestyle. So I exercise 5 days a week because it is so ingrained now in my daily routine that it is just what I do, if that makes sense. I get up early, before my DH and kids, I have my workout clothes laid out, yoga mat and weights ready etc and that is the first thing I do.

Motivation will get you only so far, even if you utterly love exercise (as I now do). You need to form a habit. My exercise is non-negotiable (unless I am actually ill).

If you can find something you enjoy, it will feel less like a chore. You might find if you have an accountability buddy that gives you the motivation or reason to go. Try to think of why you want to exercise, what will you gain and what will that change in your life.
