How often do you take rest days?

Hi everyone,

Am trying to talk myself into a rest day today as I'm tired! But I always feel guilty. My exercise is spinning and swimming, and my week usually includes 2 swims of 1km and probably 5 spin classes, with a mixture of intensities. I haven't had a rest day in just over 2 weeks. Do I need one?

Yes! If you're feeling low energy, you should have a rest day.

I aim for one rest day per week; I usually do something like a yin yoga class so I still feel I'm doing something, even if it's not high intensity.

I rarely take a day completely off - probably one every 4 weeks. However, I vary what I do, and duration and intensity quite a lot and if my performance goes down or I feel tired or un-motivated then I will take a day off.

I do two days of an hour's intensive metcon (although sometimes part of that is heavy strength training on 1day). The rest of the week, I do Pilates and advanced ballet classes. I generally have 1 day when I do nothing except a nice long walk.

Rest is really important.

My 'rest' day tends to still involve walking or cycle commuting.
Rare for me to have a total rest day, but I do vary my types of exercise a lot.

I was having 1 rest day but I was getting very tired so I'm having 2 in a row. I alternate between rowing and running so quite cardio and leg orientated.

Well I'm sat here in my PJ's, un-exercised. Will make up for it tomorrow after a good night's sleep.

PT here - at least 2 rest days a week

Lennon80 · 25/05/2021 20:54

Two a week and I only aim for 30 mins a day.

I just run 3 days a week, sometimes 4, the rest are kind of rest days, but I would rarely have less than 18,000 steps, so walk on my rest days.
