I'm due to have surgery in a few weeks due to a condition which has been exacerbated by my weight. I am 22st and desperately need to lose weight. I want to, and am able to, start exercising from now but I've got no idea where to start.

Help!

Weight loss is mostly down to diet, not exercise. Did your consultant / surgeon give you any dietary advice to help you to lose weight?

Do you want to join a gym or stuff you can do at home?
I would start with walks, hit your 10,000 steps a day.
Power walking. Even going up and down your stairs is great.
Once you feel confident enough do weights, don’t necessarily have to buy some you can use tins of beans to start.
And of course diet, a lot of greens, protein, some carbs as you’ll need them for energy to exercise.

Thank you, hitting the steps definitely sounds like a good starting point.

I meant to add onto my previous post that I'll be trying to manage my diet too but it's a bit more complicated than just going on a diet. I've always gone full throttle into cutting food before whereas my plan this time is to start out with exercise and focus on that primarily.

If you want to loose weight you really need to address your diet as it's so hard to create a calorie deficit through exercise alone. You don't need to drastically cut food or certain food groups - everything in moderation!

Walking is a great place to start. It should make you breathless, either by walking briskly or uphill. Gradually increase the distance.

Add in some body weight work. Yoga is pretty easy to pick up. Yoga witb Adruene has a diverse range of videos.

Exercise is great as it promotes muscle and boosts metabolism making weight loss easier to sustain.

There are YouTube walking workouts which are pretty good 😊

Snowbeau · 26/04/2021 18:44

Thank you, will definitely look up some walking workouts!

I'm calorie tracking at the moment but that's all I'm able to do right now. I have an app which has set me a daily calorie intake so I'm working towards that.

Thank you :)

Good luck! You sound like your head is in the right place for this which is half the battle 💕

@Snowbeau how is it going?
