Any recommendations for a basic exercise bike. I can't afford a peloton! Don't want anything too big. Or complicated to assemble!

Hopeful bump!

Exercise bike or spin bike? If the latter (which is what a Peloton bike is) then have a look at;

Bodymax B2 Bodymax B15

I don't have either of those but have seen them recommended.
Check out ebay for 2nd hand bikes - I got a technogym bike the same as they use in some gyms for a bargain price.

I mean a spin bike! Thanks. Will have a look

I used a Keiser M3 at the gym, doing Les Mills classes. I looked at these second hand on eBay, and the prices were mad over lockdown. I got a JLL IC400 Elite in October and use the Les Mills app. It's a decent bike. Plenty of gear to stand and climb for the hills. Quiet and stable. Used by both my husband and I, so gets plenty of use. I'm going to cancel my gym membership and continue with it and the app when the gyms open. The only downside to this bike is you can't see the gear on the display - the gear is a twist knob, but I got used to the resistance on the pedals to gauge the gear pretty soon.

We've got a Life Fitness spin bike, bought secondhand from ebay years ago. I use the Peloton app with it, and it seems to work quite well in terms of being able to replicate resistance and cadence. I follow a Peloton app group on FB, and most of the chat is around what's the best non-Peloton bike to buy. I've seen Keiser and Schwinn mentioned a lot. Hopefully the crazy gym equipment prices are starting to regulate again now...

Another one here with a spin bike and the Peloton app. I started off with a 12kg flywheel but had to upgrade the bike after about 8 months. Have you looked on Facebook marketplace? Some seem reasonably priced, others are making the most of the shortage of equipment, like a PP says prices are hopefully settling now especially as gyms open next week.

This bike is brilliant. I bought it during lockdown and it does the job perfectly. www.jtxfitness.com/jtx-cyclo-6-indoor-exercise-bike

I've used the peloton and les mills apps. Peloton is my favourite at the moment. Good music, loads of variety and you can see the playlists before you choose a ride.

@Todaywillbegood That’s exactly the same as me, although I think I may have a slightly different model of the bike. I really love it, but one thing that’s irritating me is that Peloton will say a number to use for resistance and I can’t find the resistance level I’m on on the JTX bike. I’ve googled and searched but to no avail. Don’t suppose you know how to find this out do you? I’m not sure if I just need to keep guessing and accept that as long as I increase it when I’m told to increase it, that’s ok.

No idea I'm afraid. I just guess. One of my favourite rides is the power zones one and I seem to judge it pretty well. I'm definitely exhausted by the end anyway 😆 I suspect Peloton do it deliberately to help encourage you to buy one of their bikes. I must admit it is tempting but it's crazy money!

Tambourinetunes · 13/04/2021 20:29

I went along to try a Peloton bike before the latest lockdown. I was surprised that I had been guessing the resistance they mentioned was tougher than it actually was in reality. I also didn’t like learning I was 24,612 on the leaderboard if that helps at all!

Hi there, I wonder if anyonr can give any advice on how to keep a small child safe from the bike (other than when she's in the play pen)? The room which it's kept in is open plan, and can't relocate the bike. How have others managed? Thank you! X

Psychonabike · 08/01/2022 17:24

@Sarahsupasaint

Have you tried putting the bike in a playpen rather than a child?

When mine were small I found that playpens were most useful when I put myself in it (if trying to work) or whatever I was trying to keep the kids away from, rather than using it to hold the kids.

Sarahsupasaint · 08/01/2022 18:10

Ooh that would be a good idea, but the playpen we are using is a square travel cot. I guess when she starts crawling I'll realise that I can't leave her out of sight no matter where we are, and have to schedule work out for nap time or when daddy can watch!
